My 5 yr old son has been experiencing abdominal pain only in the evenings. He has been waking up 2 to 3 times a night crying for about 5 to 8 mins. I am helpless. This evening he asked me why this is happening to him with tears. I took him to the doctor and he said there is nothing wrong w/ my son and that it was some viral thing and should go away in a few days. This has been going on for a week. His BW has been regular and fine, appetite also. Please help me with any info.

My 4 year old had something like that once. I gave him one Tums tablet with water and it seemed to help.

Good luck.

Warmth on the tummy can help, too. Maybe a warm bath before bed? Not a heating pad. Good luck!

I am so sorry this is happening to your little boy. I know how disconcerting it is to not know what's wrong. My daughter did something similar once. She kept complaining of a stomach ache for several days, and I thought it was appendicitis so I took her to the doctor. He said that she probably just had a virus too. This ended up to be the case. (I even took her to the ER when she woke up in the middle of the night crying in pain and they did X-rays)

However, if you don't think your son just has a virus, keep trying. Get a second opinion. I read an article in Parents magazine about stomach pain in children, and one thing that I had never heard of was that children can get stomach migranes. You can read the article if you go to their website. http://www.parents.com/preschoolers/health/other-health-i...

Hope your son feels better soon!
