That sounds like Tourette's syndrome. Kids with this syndrome have their own "tics" that they really can't control. I would discuss it with his doctor.

I'm not an expert, I just saw a show about it on Discovery Health :)

I agree with Sandy H.
Tourette syndrome: Unusual movements or sounds, called tics. Little or no control over them. Common tics are throat-clearing and blinking. You may repeat words, spin, or, rarely, blurt out swear words.
You might wanna do a little research on it and go talk to your childs pediatrician.

Good luck with it all!

You definitely need to have him evaluated for Tourette's Syndrome.

You have received excellent advice from everyone. Good luck, take care.
My statement is directed to Renee... follow the same advice! Ignoring your son's "constant noises" since he started talking and removing yourself from the room to lessen your annoyance did not help your son much.

Go to the pediatrician. If possible, take a video of him or run a tape recorder to show the doctor. There are a variety of neurological conditions which can cause this. Your pedi will be able to refer you to a pediatric neurologist. It's not possible for us to diagnose it from your description, but these tics and his explanation that someone is making him do it really sound like something that needs evaluation - Tourette's syndrome is one but there are others and also various degrees of each condition. There are a variety of therapies and medications which can help. Take the poor kid in for a workup as soon as you can.

My husband has suffered from tics his whole life. Not full blown tourrette's but he makes a throat clearing noise a lot now that is due to it. As a kid he had other tics with his jaw, legs, etc. Take him to the pediatrician. If you can get some of it on video, that will help the pediatrician see exactly what is happening in case it doesn;t occur while you are there on a visit. Telling him to stop actually draws his attention to it and makes him more likely to continue. Just please get him to the doctor. If it's making you crazy at home, I can't imagine what a distraction it must be at school. Has the teacher noticed?

My son also had a similar issue, although he never "screamed", his also started in kindergarten. He would make facial movements, low sounding burp-like sounds and many more that I can no longer remember. He is now in 7th grade and these have lessened over the years. He also has sensory issues and slight ADD, but has never been diagnosed as such or needed any services in school. It is definitely worth bringing up to your ped. I agree with other posts, if you can ignore it, it seems to dissipate sooner. Telling him to stop is fruitless. I believe it is more a "boy" issue as they seem to deal with it more than girls. Keep loving him and looking for assistance. It will help both of you. Good luck-

Find a pedi neurologist, sounds like Tourette's Syndrome. He can not help what is happening to him if this is the case.

I wish I could help you but I can't. My 8 year old has been doing it since he started talking. He just makes constant noises. I have found that it is best to ignore it. Sometimes I remove myself from the room to lessen my annoyance. Good luck.

To edit, I am not speaking of tics, or motor disturbances. I am speaking of a little boy who likes to hear himself talk and sing and say things like, lalalalala, and song lyrics, cartoon character noises, etc. I thought that is what J. meant.
