Movies/dvd During Labor??

I had a planned c section. I was in the hospital for 3 nights, 4 days. I would have never of thought to bring a dvd player even for that. That's a great idea!

Here's what i think.....

Every labor is different....every woman is different....every woman handles pain differently. If you think it might be something you want to have in the room....by all means...BRING IT! Just because you bring it and have it hooked up, doesn't mean you have to watch it while you are in labor.

I think it's better to have something there you might want to use then to not have it at all.

If she wants to watch movies when she is in labor, do it at home. Like my midwife told me, "come in when you can't walk and talk through a contraction." Once I was to that point, I was very inward focused and not able to concentrate on the outside world well.

My husband and I brought a handful of movies and we watched 1 or 2. When we weren't watching movies we had music playing and I did a lot of knitting. It really helped keep me from getting to anxious.

I watched tv the whole time I was in labor with my second child. I was induced at 41 weeks and was already dialated to 5 when I went in. My doc broke my water and put me on pit. It was a really easy labor and had nothing better to do but to watch tv to pass the time because I really wasn't in any pain at all - I didn't need any drugs let alone an epidural. I think that it's completely possible for your friend to pop in a dvd especially for the first part of labor because it will keep her relaxed and focused on something other than the pain of contractions. It's definately worth the try and something I wish I had thought of myself.

i think the big factor is when she gose in if she is induced or her water breaks and is not in much pain the tv and dvd or any distraction is helpful if she is in full labor then no she will must likely not use it but her huspand might
i remember the presidetal address being on after my empidual just before i went to sleep with dd and this time i think it was on i played cards ( to meny family members to read) hope this helps

Not likely. Your attention span is not there and it would annoy you. I did bring a cd player and listened to waves and natural music. Like celtic it calmed me. Movies not likely. Your family or whom ever is in the room you start to yell at them. I just buried my face in the pillow and moaned to myself. Didnt want to be rubbed or touched. I was like a cat giving birth under a porch.

Only thing i watch was for the doctor to come and tell me its time!!!lol.. No time to watch a movie..

I really don't think you'll have time to watch movies. And if you do, there are really good channels on the TV that will be in your room. Channels that focus on baby care and such. When I went in to the hospital with my first child, I packed an entire goody bag with cards, magazines, books, and even the baby book. I NEVER even picked up the bag. From the time I went in, I was focusing on breathing, my body, and the baby. I was even in the hospital 2 days after the birth, and still had no time for stuff like that. All you're going to want to do is sleep, hold your baby, and learn as much as you can. Because once you leave the hospital, it's just you and that baby. Besides, you can watch movies/dvd's anytime (well, when baby allows you to! LOL) Best of luck!

Heck No!! I had no interest in watching anything. But I had a very hard and long labor. But my hunny watched a few movies that were on t.v. . But I really have not heard of anyone watching or reading anything.

I think my hubby may have watched some regular tv early on when they started inducing (while I was sleeping) but myself personally I had no interest or time to watch tv. I also probably couldn't have even told you what was on.....

Not unless me staring in my own version of the exoricist counts! I was in no way interested in watching anything during that time period. The only thing I could think about was getting that baby out! I do remember with my first child my hsb had some sort of sports event on and I was totally annoyed. Funny the things you remember and that was 7 yrs ago..

I watched a movie during labor, I was induced and it took a while. The hospital I was at actually had a tv and dvd player already in the room and a list of movies they had that you could borrow. My husband was thankful for the distraction also, I was induced w/ all three of my kids, it was a long process, but my actual "hard labor" was short!

We hooked up our DVD player to the tv in my hospital room and watched movies every night. I was in the hospital for 3 days after my C-Section.

Well I had to be induced due to pre-eclampsia. So I went to the hospitol around 5pm and they weren't starting the pitosin(spelling?)until 8am. So yeah my husband brought his lap top in and we brought some dvd's and watched them during the night. And there was a vcr in the room already and in the morning I watched more movies, I actually watched movies up until my water broke and the contractions started coming strong, then I switched to relaxing music :). I tell you what I looked like I was going to a hotel with the stuff I brought. But I can honestly say I didnt bring one thing that I did not use. I made a list and a plan of how I had hoped for my birth experience to go and brought everything I would need in order for that to happen. I believe it really pays off to really think about how you want your birthing experience to go and although every mom knows that you can't plan exactly how everything will go, it doesnt hurt to have a good idea of how you want it to go. I had a WONDERFUL! birthing experience and I can only hope your friend has one too...Congratulations to her and good luck!!!!!

Oh heck no!!! I was too busy trying to make myself comfortable between the contractions,water breaking, etc. Once it came time to pushing I was only focused on that!!!!

Lol yeh right at least not with a natural birth. Maybe with an epidural you might be able to concentrate on a movie?

I doubt she'll want to watch it during the birth but I guess it never hurts to take to much. She may want it after the baby is born during her stay at the hospital. Even then though, you're usually on such a high about the baby the TV is the last thing on your mind. She could always leave it in the car and have her husband get if the need arises.

I was induced so I was at the hospital FOREVER. Once I got the epidural I took a nap until I was ready to push, so I guess a movie wouldn't be out of the question. But if you were to go to the hospital when the contractions were close together I am assuming that a movie would be the furthest thing from your mind.

I was induced so I was in the hospital for a whole day before I actually delivered. The hospital actually had a dvd player in the room in case we wanted to use it. I did watch a movie and some episodes of a favorite TV show, but it was stuff that I had already seen before so I didn't feel that I had to really pay attention to it. If I wasn't being induced though, I think I would not have had time to use it.
