Minipill Question
I'm wondering if anyone can help quell my worries. I was on the minipill for a little over a year while I breastfed my daughter. I stopped breastfeeding and stopped taking the minipill in December. It is now the end of January, and my period hasn't resumed yet. My husband and I want to start trying for another baby, but I wanted to get back into a regular cycle first. Does anyone know how long it generally takes to start getting your period? I'm wondering if I should call my OBGYN, or if this is normal. Thanks for your help!

Hi V.,
My period was really erratic for a few months after stopping the pill. I don't remember exactly how long before they were regular--maybe 3 or 4 months.
If there's a chance you could already be pregnant, take a pregnancy test. Otherwise, just sit back and wait. I take Evening Primrose Oil to regulate my periods and reduce cramps; it works like a charm for me. Perhaps you would also find it beneficial. You can buy EPO capsules anywhere--Walgreen's, Target. They took a couple of months before I really felt the full effects.
Good luck!

Is it possible you are already pregnant?

V.,
I never went on the pill after giving birth, but in two instances it took me 2 -3 months after I stopped nursing to get my period, and then another 3 cycles before they were regular again. Is topped nursing once at 3 mos, and again at 9 mos. My doctor confirmed things I read about nursing being a natural contraceptive for up to the first 6 mos. and any thing after that depends upon the person. Maybe the pill negates my experience, I hope this is helpful.

I'm currently on the minipill myself, so I don't know what my fertility/cycles will be like when I go off of this.
However, when I stopped using the combined estrogen/progestin pills, it took 6 MONTHS for my body to start up on its own again.
So I figure I must be pretty sensitive to hormones. If you relax and give it time, it will start up on its own again, I'm sure! :)

I think it took me 3 or 4 months after getting off the mini pill before I got my period. Sometimes it takes awhile for your body to adjust to all the changes. Enjoy it while it lasts!

I got pregnant shortly after weaning my daughter while still on the mini pill. I never did get a regular period. I only spotted once.

If you just stopped breastfeeding and have not had your period hasn't started it could be normal. If you and your husband have had unprotected sex you could be pregnant. I would wait a little bit and if you still don't get it call your OB

My doc had said about 3 months to be fertile after stopping the pill, but periods could start right away (and did if irregular). With the minipill though it is different since if you are strict about taking it you can get pregnant while on it. A test may be in order or a call to the doc just to check on timing. Have fun producing #2 if you haven't already :)
