J.,

I've been on the mini pill sine February and have only had 1 and 1/2 (super light- mostly just spotting) periods since.

With my first daughter, I breastfed and took the mini-pill (progesterone only) and didn't have my first period until my girl was 12 months old. With my second I did the same and didn't have my period until she was 15 mos.! Enjoy it!

Actually, if you are only breastfeeding, it is very normal not to have periods. I breastfed and didn't have them for about 18 months with one of my sons. My sister did this with all of them and she had hers all about 2 years apart so she must have started her periods a few months after a year.

It is normal not to menstruate while breastfeeding but if you have had your reg. cycle until now it is a little unusual. When taking contraceptives your body normally slows or stops milk production so you should be happy that you are able to. I would not worry about it too much though. If it happens again I would ask the doctor though.

Very normal. I have a four month old and I am taking the mini pill. No period. With my first son I didn't take a pill at all and I didn't get my first period until after he was a year old.

no worries at all!! i breastfed my little guy till just a month ago (14 months) and my period was all over the place. i was on the mini pill while breastfeeding but would have a period every 2 months, then every 2 weeks, etc...not fun! now i'm on a regular pill & hope that soon it all starts working right : ) but my doctor did say some women never go back to "normal" whatever that might be.

good luck & congrats on breastfeeding your little guy!

It is absolutely normal not to have a period while breastfeeding, but why not use some other form of contraceptive while nursing? My doctor would not prescribe either the pill or mini pill while I was nursing because he said studies were starting to show negative issues resulting from it. When it comes to our kids, "better safe than sorry".

Hi J.! I do believe that is normal for most breastfeeding Moms. I was on the mini pill and nursed my kids with no period. As soon as I quit nursing my periods started right back to normal. But, like Jenni said, a lot of women think that because they don't have their period while nursing they can't get pregnant. I've heard of a lot of 'oops' babies because of that little tale.
So, I think you can rest assured, you're just a normal breastfeeding Mom. :)

I breast fed until my son was 11 1/2 months (eliminated 1 breast feed/week starting at 10 1/2 months) and never had a period until this week (my son turned a year old on August 3rd). I have been taking the 'mini pill'. Enjoy it while it lasts :-).

I was nursing and taking the mini pill and was 40 years old when I started missing my period. My baby was only 10 months. and guess what? I was pregnant. Now I have two in a row and when all my other friends my age were struggling to get pregnant, I ended up pregnant on accident. You may just want to go buy a pregnancy test. They sell them at the $1 store.By the way, it is great having kids that are only 1 1/2 apart but initially its a struggle.

I know people who have not had a period while breastfeeding for ages. I am not one of those. I got pregnant when my first daughter was 3 months old and I was breastfeeding. It was a shock. I now have an IUD and just got my first after birth period, and my baby is 4 months old.

J., I never had a period while breastfeeding (10 months) and it took about 2 months for it to come after I stopped nursing. No worries... enjoy your child and being a mom!

It's normal ... but just in case you should check with a pregnancy test once a month.... because i know of more than a few who were breastfeeding and on contraceptive who just went for checkup and were told they were 4 (one was 5) months pregnant

Hi J., it is normal not to have a period while breastfeeding and I dont want to scare you but I was breastfeeding my son exclusively and on the mini pill and got pregnant! I would test myself just in case if I were you. I tested myself just because I had a weird feeling and bam...I got my little surprise. Good luck!

I don't think you should be worried. At least I hope not. I'm on oral contraceptives and am still breastfeeding my ten-and-a-half month old and have yet to resume my period. I'm trying to enjoy it while it lasts :-)

I breastfed my first two girls until the age of two. With both I took the mini pill and I didn't get my period back until they were about a year and a half. I am currently breastfeeding my 11 month old son and still haven't got my peroid back. So yes, it is completely normal.

I breastfed my daughter for 2+ years, got my period when s he was 15mos. I breastfed my son 3+ years and got my period when he was 9mos. Everyone is different. Just don't use the fact that you haven't gotten it as birth control, obviously you aren't since you are also on a contraceptive but just in case you didn't know.

I ahave 3 children and breastfed all of them until they were 12 months old while taking the mini pill. With all 3 of them I did not have my period until 1-2 months after I stopped nursing. It's totally normal and great to not have to deal with it for so long!

It is normal to not have a period while breastfeeding. That is why a lot of people assume that they cannot get pg, and are shocked to find out that they are suddenly pg again.

I didnt' get my period back until my daughter was 6 mos old, and watchout...it will be a doosie!!

i'm surprise that you are on contraceptives while nursing. my doctor says that it depletes your milk supply (or i think that's what I remember the reason to be). But whatever the reason, my doctor basically said that he cannot give me a prescription until i'm done nursing. hmmm..
now, i'm very curious....
