Hi Everyone! We need a new mattress and I was wondering if any of you have a memory foam mattress or know someone who does? Are you happy with it? Does it have a funky smell? Does it keep you extra warm at night? Would you recommend it? Any other advice you have regarding it please let me know. Thanks in advance!

I have a TempurPedic mattress - my grandmother bought one and HATED it, so she gave it to me - lucky me! - because I LOVE IT!!! It is the most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on. Mine did not have any smell, but my grandmother did have it for a couple months before giving it to me, so it's possible it did, but the smell just dissipated before I got it. It does seem to hold in heat more so than a typical mattress, which is good if you are typically cold, or if you keep your house cool, but if you are a sweaty or hot sleeper, this could get on your nerves. It is different than a regular spring mattress in that (duh!) there is no spring to it. That might seem like the Mr. Obvious statement of the year, but I say that because it does make getting out of the bed a little harder, believe it or not. My mom slept in my bed a couple times, and complained how hard it is for her to get out of (she has back problems) because of the total lack of spring or bounce to the bed. I do recognize that it does require you to use all your own strength, as opposed to getting a little spring from the mattress to get up, but for me, that's not a problem, and after a day or so, you don't even notice it anymore. I only mention it in case you or anyone who will be sleeping in the bed has back or neck problems. As for comfort, I find it to be absolutely the most wonderful thing in the world. My mom recently bought a high end latex mattress, and personally, I don't even like it as much as mine. It's really a personal preference, if you like the memory foam feel, then I think you'd enjoy having one. But I'd definitely suggest you spend ample time trying it out in the store to get a feel for whether you find that type of mattress comfortable.

We too have a temerpedic and LOVE it! I honestly don't remember a smell, but I do remember the sales guy talking about simple things you could do if it did.
I normally am very hot blooded and kind of at that age (48) I can honestly say that I have not been bothered by being too hot.
I will mention though that we were guests of some friends who did not have a true temperpedic but just one of those "memory foam" layover mattress and it was not comfortable at all. *I'm kind of surprised because these friends always have to have the best of the best, but this thing spilled over on the sides, it was lumpy and soft and not comfortable at all.

I just have the 2" topper, but I love it. It's warmer, but a layer of cotton mattress pad helps. (I'd have the full size, but we spent way too much on a mattress before getting it, and hubby wouldn't go for another mattress.) My mom has a full size one but hers is very firm--lay on it before you buy. The toppers come in various thicknesses, so you may want to get that instead of a new mattress--- lots cheaper.

I have a tempurpedic & absolutely love it. There was a smell but it went away quickly. It is a little warmer but we have gotten used to it. My in-laws also got one but didn't like it. He is extremely over weight & couldn't turn over very easily. Spend some time laying on it in the store. We bought a cheeper brand first & didn't like it at all - Scandinavian. Although I have a friend who has that brand & loves it.

LOVE mine. It is maybe a little warmer, but not bad, and I am a hot natured person. No smell either. We have one from Relax the Back. Nothing compares to sleeping in our bed.

We just bought a new mattress and decided against a foam mattress. My husband is a very hot person and is hot in the winter when I am freezing. The salesperson steered us away from a foam mattress for this reason, saying they tend to trap heat and make hot people feel even hotter.
