Looking to Purchase a New Mattress

Hi Moms,

My husband and I purchaed a new Ladyamericana mattress 4 years ago and all the springs have given out! I tried to get them to honor the warranty and they said I had to bring the mattress to them so they can repair it! I would think for $700 I could get a little better service.

Anyway, my question is about a new mattress because I can't be bothered with bringing my mattress to a place to be fixed. Does anyone have experience with a memory foam mattress? What brand did you get, do you like it and why and if not what do you not like about it? Also, I have been offred a good deal on the mattress, but the sales person said I could use it with my current box spring. Has anyone else done this and would you recomend doing this?

Any suggestions would be very helpful! I can't afford to buy a new mattress every 4 years! Even if you have a mattress you love and has held up well thats not memory foam please let me know.

Thank you for all you help!

T.

We bought a real temperpedic and both LOVE it. It came with a special wooden base (didn't cost extra) and you shouldn't use it with a box spring. I was just discussing memory foams last night with some friends and one friend said she was sorry she bought a cheaper brand because it was really HOT when they slept. I don't think the temperpedic is hot at all. I tried a sleep number bed in a hotel last year and HATED it also. The best thing about temperpedic is the 30 day trial. There are several different types of temperpedics and you have 30 days to decide if you like it or not. We tried one we thought we would love and didn't really love it, so the store brought out another type (which was actually cheaper) for us to try and we liked it a lot better. Good luck!

T., I purchased my mattress at my local Sam's club for a fraction of the cost of mattress stores. It is still holding up after 5 years.

Sorry Lori I heard Termperpedic's were awful my friend has increased back problems from it. My MIL loves her sleep number she has to have a super firm bed while my FIL likes it a bit softer it works out well for them.

My husband and I have had a memory foam mattress for 5 months or so and we love it! we are both hot sleepers and the memory foam has not made us any hotter than our pillow top did. that was our main concern before we purchased it. We got ours from overstock. it is a serta so we trusted getting it off the internet and we have NOT been let down. it is a great product and super inexpesive since we got it at overstock. main thing you have to know before getting one - you can't use a box spring with it. you have to get a foundation. looking online at places that sell the foundations, it is nearly as expensive as the bed, but that is boloney! we got our foundation (king size) from a furniture store when we bought our bedroom suite for $115 or so. hope the hunt goes well!

We just splurged and bought a Temperpedic and love it!
Our last one was a Stearns and Foster which we bought about 10 years ago and spent like $2500 then. Both of us have back issues and need more support.
Good Luck

We got my son a cheapie memory foam for his twin bed from walmart. Far and away the cheapest mattress that we could find (he's two - he's not going to know the difference). I love it. He has the most comfortable bed in the house. As soon as we have the money to replace our mattress, that's the way I'm going to go.

Memory foams work with your body heat. We just have a memory foam topper and it makes me hot. Good for the winter. I actually don't think I'd buy a mattress. But, go to a store that lets you lay on them as long as you want. Not at the end of the day tho-- any mattress would feel good! My brother has a air bed--sleep by number kind- I hate it! Feels like you're laying on a mattress stuffed with walmart bags!! My honest favorite pick is a waterbed. The old floppy kind. Warm on muscles and joints. No pressure points whatsoever. Like sleeping on a cloud!

I wanted to share that I have a version of the Tempurpedic, but it is Seally's version (I think). However, I do know that if you go the memory foam route, you need to check on the warranty. I know that with Tempurpedic and my foam mattress, the warranty is null and void if you don't have a specific kind of base.
I want a Tempurpedic SoftCloud mattress. We did get Tempurpedic's adjustable base, which I love. It also has a vibrating option that has a timed shutoff, but it continues to feel like it is massaging after it has turned off. If you have any other questions, or want any more information from me, please don't hesitate to send me a personal message.
Good luck!
