Is Tempurpedic Worth the Cash?
Me and my DH are about to buy a king size memory foam bed. We were looking at the Tempurpedic vs. the other brands. Some friends at work who purchased the Tempurpedic said that the difference in the material wasn't worth the difference in price. You ladies seem to know so much so I thought I'd ask you! What memory foam beds do you have and are they really as similar as they seem once you get them home?
Thanks yous ladies!

We have a Tempurpedic - bought it about 2 years ago, and DH and I absolutely love it. It feels exactly the same as it did the day we bought it. I have never tried any other brand though, so I can't compare. All I know is that when I get back from a multi-night vacation somewhere I am thrilled to crawl back into my own bed. My parents tried out one of those sleep # beds and sent it back within the warranty. They then bought a Tempurpedic type (may have been a knock-off). Based on the comments posted here, it sounds like this is a highly personal experience.
I should mention that DH was concerned about the 'heat' factor (because he is quite warm when he sleeps), but he loves our bed too, and has not noticed a problem or complained.

We bought a knock-off Tempurpedic from American Furniture Warehouse and all I can say is DON'T DO IT!!! I still really like it, but my hubby HATES it. He is an average size guy with a rather large size butt. His side has totally sunken in that area and will not come back to its original position. As a result he has a bad back. We are thinking about getting a sleep number bed instead since I hear nothing but good things about it.

We have a tempurpedic and we love it. When we travel we miss it. It is a pain to move due to the layers and the weight (and we also have a king size) but, it is worth it. We have had ours for 4 years and is holding up great. there is a little bit of indentations where we tend to be.
When it arrives it is very firm and you have to give it 4-6 weeks. When it gets cold it gets hard (IE leaving for vacation in the winter, turning your heat down....it is very firm upon the return). Also I find it warm. My husband loves that...me not so much. (i think they have something new to decrease that??) We tried a lot of other beds but, not foam beds (pillow tops, sleep number) and this is the one we agreed upon. We both still LOVE it.

I am with Joann! When my husband and I went to buy our bed after we got married I really wanted a Temperpedic. My parents have a sleep number and they recommended that above anything else. I still really wanted to at least try one. I have a good friend who has one so I asked if I could try it out. I stayed at her house for a girls night...and holy cow. I am always cold when I sleep. It can be 100 degrees in the room and I have to still be covered up, but I was SO HOT in that dang bed. It was comfy, but nothing amazing. I sweat all night long and could not cool off. The foam just holds the heat in. So we went with a sleep number. It is the best bed ever. When we got the bed, the sales lady mentioned that they are great when you’re pregnant because you can pump up the firmness when you back hurts. We laughed it off because we didn’t plan on having kids for 4 years. Little did we know I was pregnant at the time and I was so relieved we bought it because it was WONDERFUL. I sleep on about 30 or 35, 45 to 50 when I was pregnant. My husband sleeps on 70 or 75 so it is really hard to believe that we both could have been comfortable on a bed with no adjustable firmness. In 10 or 15 years when the sleep number is run it course, we will get another one. I will not sleep on anything else! If you are set on having the memory foam I am pretty sure that Sleep Number has a memory foam mattress cover. I always wanted one, but after my Temperpedic experience I will not get one because of the heat factor. It’s a big purchase and I wish you luck!

Hi M.,
If you want to get an education about beds, go to Innomax and see Scott or Sandy. We had shopped all the "mall" stores and didn't not get this kind of service or education. It's off the beaten path, but owrth it!

We bought something simular to the tempurpedic and I have never slept so good! I actually don't experience lower back pain any longer when I get up.

My parents and 3 siblings have the sleep number and love it. However, my husband wasn't impressed and really wanted to research the temperpedic. I thought it felt hard but we layed on it for over 30 minutes and after much research and laying on beds, we ended up with one of the firmer ones. It took a couple nights to get used to it but now I don't wake up with a sore back and if my husband gets up really early or in the night, I don't always wake up as it really doesn't bounce at all. I am a light sleeper and would always wake up when he rolled over or got up but now, I sleep right through it. We tried the knock offs but they seemed to stay indented longer where we had layed and didn't have the firmness nor the warranty we wanted. Our friend is a chiropractor and bought a sleep number but doesn't really like it, he just got a deal on it because he is a chiropractor. He said he thinks the temperpedic is better on your back. The lady at sleep number disagreed with this but.... I love the temperpedic. Let us know what you decide. Good luck.

Go look at RC Wiley. I think the brand they carry is memorypedic? Something like that. We love it. We heard with the Tempurpedics there is not enough ventilation so you get hot. We have not had this problem with the Memorypedic. Try checking out RC Wiley and speak with a sales person there. We love ours! Good luck!

My husband convinced me to try the sleep number bed when we needed a new one. I was skeptical, but LOVE IT! I was pregnant when we got it, and he has a bad back. The air is awesome for distributing the weight and pressure - I was very comfortable throughout the entire pregnancy, and his back is much better. It's awesome!
