Hi my name is A. I'm 18 years old and I've recently had a laparosycpy (I'm not sure how its spelled) and my gyno, who is also a endo specialist found a mind case of endo onmy rectum. Because it's on my rectum he said its to risky to remove from the rectal tissue. He recomended this injection for the pain but the more I research it it sounds like the depo vera shot. I was on depo vera for almost two years. I trusted my medical dr when he perscribed it to me and I was just happy because I didnt have peroids since my peroids were awful. He didnt explain much about it but after awhile of bad back pain and moodswings I went off it. I was just wondering if anyone has any insight on this injection or alternative treatments? Any advice or experience storys would be helpful!
The two shots are different. I have endo and my doc told me that the depo shot is horrible if you have endo. I had the Lupron injections, they were horribly expensive, but worth it. It puts your body into menopause. I did have hot flashes, but I felt great. A lot of women had weight gain but I actually lost weight.
I would recommend it. However, I have had four more surgeries since then.

I have intersticial cystitis. It's a very painful bladder syndrome. At first, I thought it was my uterus. I had a laparascopy and that Dr. thought I had endo. It was only a few spots but he said it can be like a canker sore and a few spots can be very painful. I know now that wasn't my problem. My pain didn't revolve around my periods. He was going to put me on lupron. My co-worker had it and now has slight seisures. Her sister had the shots also and also has seisures and had her driver's liscense taken away. They think it was caused from that. My co-worker has the seisures around her period. Just make sure you do A LOT of research! It scared me off of it. In the end, it wasn't even a proper diagnosis. The pill can lighten your periods and when taken continuously stop them. I did do that and didn't like it because I had breakthrough bleeding, but, like I said, endo wasn't causing my pain.
Lupron is much worse than depo shots. It will put you into full blown menopause. That is not a fun thing for anyone, much less an 18 year old. Side effect from it may be long lasting or permanent. Be very cautious. The only true cure for endo is removal. Please get another opinion about the possibility of your endo being removed. Skill levels of surgeons vary widely.

I was young when my endo was diagnosed too - I believe my first laparoscopy was in my first year of college? I did use one round of the lupron shot and I HATED it. The hot flashes were not fun, but it was the mood swings that were not worth it for me. I suffer from depression/anxiety as it is so I don't need any more mood swings than "normal" :-)
My pain/symptoms were pretty well controlled by using the Pill, actually, after I had my surgery/removal of excess endo tissue. I am not sure if that is the case for you, however?
If you do go on the Lupron, maybe you can talk to your doctor about prescribing something else to help lessen the mood effects? You might not need it though - I did because of my pre-existing depression/anxiety. Good luck!
I took lupron for a 6 month cycle for my endometriosis. It put me in menopause -- no period, hot flashes and mood swings. It helped for a few months but my endometriosis soon returned once I was off of it (maybe about 3-6 months later.) Everyone is different so you may not experience the same thing I did, but I would not do it again. You can always try it and if it is making you too miserable, stop the medication.
