Mamas & Papas-

DS's curly locks are getting nappy and dreaded (sp?). Tried the Johnson's 2in1 and it doesn't seem to offer much conditioning. Looking for Loreal Kids, but can't find it in any of the local drugstores, or through amazon (2-3 month wait time before it ships). Can you recommend any thing else? Also, any ideas as to why its gone unavailable?

Thanks a bunch,
F. B.

What can I do next?

As a mamma who "boasts" nappy curly locks, I highly recommend Giovanni products. They are 100 percent organic and while they don't market toward wee ones, I would use them on my DD if her hair takes after mine.

Try "Garnier Fructis" hair products.
The leave in conditioner.
And "shine" products.

Also, be sure to regularly, TRIM your child's hair. Because, split-ends makes the hair tangle more and it dries out the ends.

i was never a fan of the 2 in 1 products by any brand.. they never seemed to have enough conditioner and i would come out of the shower with a ball of knots in my hair.. if u dont wana use a conditioner in the shower id just use regular shampoo n then once shes out they make a spray thats leave in conditioner/detangler.. im prettey sure loreal kids used to makes it but i know theres other brands out there that also have products like that.. i always remember it being easier to find in the summer time for some reason.. its been quite a while years ago i stopped using it because my dad puts so much chlorine in my pool my hair always ends up with a green tint to it so i started using swim shampoo&conditioner in the summer-once i got older having green hair all summer wasnt so funny anymore.. this will be the first summer ever that i dont have blonde hair so im switching back.. if i find something good ill let you know

Johnson's products are not exactly pure. Alcohol and other petroleum based additives, Sodium Laureth/laurel sulfate... all not healthy. And can be drying to skin and hair. And curly hair is already naturally drier than straight. I have curly hair and use organic coconut oil after a shower. Water is good enough to clean kids' hair (especially if you have a hand held shower head to run the water through), while using a mild soap to clean the scalp occasionally (once/week).

We have found the Suave Kids 2in1 to be comparable to Loreal. Available at CVS, Stop n Shop, BJs, Target, etc. But also, now that my kids are older enough (5) that I don't worry as much about getting tear-free stuff, I've been using a separate conditioner too: Knot Today by Kinky Curly.

I don't know squat about this particular Loreal product (sorry), but Carol's Daughter products are good for hair that tends toward nappiness and dreads. My brother uses them for my (mixed-race) nephew, and they're actually great for my own (thick, coarse, curly) hair, though my ancestry is just Eastern European Jewish as far as I know.

I use Earths Best and it makes my kids smell so good.

I get the products from Byerly's grocery stores.

not sure on the Loreal kids but our Cub had it all on an end cap for 2 bucks off the price, I bought like 20 cause i like the watermelon one. I only use it on my boy cause he has a shaved head, but my girls have mid back length fine hair that gets super snarly and matted. Not really nappy. Though I think Earths Best has more conditioner and I like it. I used to use Fructis leave in mixed with water in a spray bottle for after baths and touch ups. I was able to completely stop that with Earths Best.
