My 5 month old has a lump on his back under the skin bought halfway right where his spine is. you can move it and it'll move around a little bit when touched but I can't tell if it's actually connected to his spine. Does anyone know what it could possibly be??
I was rubbing lotion on him and felt it. It hadn't been there long I know and ilhe wasn't born with it so I really don't know :(
It's probably nothing.
I had a number of lumps and cysts in varying places when I was growing up and they were easily removed.
But you need to see what the doctor says.
A doctor needs to check this out but I found a similar lump (soft and moveable) on the top of my then 7yo daughter's spine. (At the base of her neck). Her lump was benign (non cancerous). Her lump was a lipoma which is a fatty tissue tumor. I had to take her to a children's hospital where they sedated her and preformed an MRI to make sure it was not wrapped around her spinal cord. It wasn't, so they referred us to a plastic surgeon who performed liposuction to remove the lump.

I think this is one of those times that it's better for people not to guess and to just go in and see your doctor. I wouldn't put it off. It's probably nothing (most times, things aren't) but I wouldn't try to figure this out on the internet.

It's impossible to tell from your description where it is or what it is. There are many reasons for lumps - cysts, lipomas, swollen lymph nodes. Call the doctor. For some things, if you can't get an appointment right away, you can take a picture and email it to a physician, but I'm guessing this needs to be looked at and palpated in person.
It could be a cyst. You definitely need to have it looked at by a doctor. Don't wait or be afraid-- more information is always better.
