Looking for a Good OB/GYN in South Metro

I am looking for a new OB/GYN. I didn't think my last doc was very personable, the RN I saw every other time seemed to blow off my concerns, and the ultrasound tech didn't seem very experienced (she missed that our daughter had clubfoot, now that i look at the ultrasound pic, i think even I can see it!). That was park nicollet in eagan. So I am thinking about changing clinics, because they don't have a lot of choice of female docs at park nicollet in burnsville. Has anyone had any experiences with female ob's at Fairview burnsville or lakeville, or recommend another clinic altogether (in that area)? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I'd just like to second the OB/GYN Specialists including Dr Shibley. My 2 sisters and I are all very happy with that practice. We've had 3 pregnancies & 1 3 lb uterine Fibroid between the 3 of us. (Favorites= Drs Shibley, Cho, Cho, or Colwell - Dr Larson can be a bit rough around the edges) Here's their website: www.obgynpa.com

Ali,

Hello! I would highly recommend Southdale Obgyn in Burnsville. I've been going there for the last 15 years! They've been there during various things that have gone on w/me over the years, my pregnancies and there for the birth of our 2 kids. I think it's your own personal pref. who you end up liking, but I really like all the female doctors there that I've met with. A lot of my friends go there, too and I've not heard anyone have a negative experience and we all see different doctors.

good luck!!

A.,
I'm sorry about your poor experiences with PNC -Eagan. I delivered 2 children with the PNC-Shakopee Midwives. I've seen all of them and LOVE them! I haven't been seen by any of the OB's so if that is for sure what you want then I can't recommend anyone. I've also never had a poor experience with any of the staff either scheduling, US, lab, labor/delivery, or in the clinic. The drive is fairly quick from Elko which is also where we live.

Hi A.! I go to "Addie" at Park Nicollet in Burnsville. She is a nurse practitioner, but she is AWESOME! She really cares about you. But I think she's really popular with everyone, so she may be hard to get into. She is much more personable than any of the doctors there. But they are good too.

I thought it was funny that you work 32-hrs a week & have Wednesdays off. Because I do too! And I'm always looking for things to do on Wednesdays. Maybe we should get together! I have a 2-yr old boy (just turned 2 in July) and a 3&1/2 month old little girl. It's harder to get out and do things now that I have her. But feel free to email me at ____@____.com.

Hi A. -
I loved the drs at Southdale ObGyn. I had Dr. Davenport. However, I went to several drs during my pregnancy so that I was familiar with more than Dr. Davenport in case I delivered early. I did have a planned c-section but you can never be too sure. I saw most of the female drs there. However, during my last trimester, I started bleeding and saw one of their male drs. He was very personable and even tho I was a bit more uncomfortable with having to see him - he tried to do everything he could by listening to my concerns and making me feel comfortable. I believe there are 2 male drs there and the other male dr saw me in the hospital and was very fun and personable as well. I don't think you can go wrong with that clinic. What's nice is that it's SO close to Fairview Ridges. When I needed further testing (after bleeding) - I didn't have to go far (next bldg over) and they did more of a thourough ultrasound there at the hospital. At the clinic and at the hospital, they were very thorough and answered all of my questions/concerns. It also made clinic visits a breeze when I had my kids along. I take my kids to Southdale Peds (which is nearly across the parking lot) on Nicollet. I had a great experience at Fairview Ridges. I've heard that if they are full on the maternity unit - there is the chance of needing to deliver at Southdale. I've heard mixed reviews on both hospitals but I think lately I've heard more positive experiences. The hospital itself has a great Big Brothers/Big Sisters class for the little ones. I highly encourage it when and if you plan to have more kiddos. My daughter LOVED it and they had some great techniques and ideas to help kids become more comfortable with their new siblings. Good Luck to you!

This may be too far of a drive for you, but my OB works most days in Northfield, and then Friday afternoons in Farmington. She is so wonderful...Her name is Dr. Suppes.

Just wanted to suggest you look into Women's health at northfield hospital. I have been going there for about 2 years now and love them! I have seen all of the female obgyns there and they are all great. They really take their time and make sure all of your concerns are noted. I just had a m/c and I feel like they went above and beyond to help me through all of it. 2 of the docs do 1 day a week at the Lakeville and farmington clinic each so that helps sometimes but also Northfield isnt too far either. We live in farmington and its about 25mins so Elko would be closer. GL! Looking for a new doctor is always a pain untill you find one you just love!

A. - Looks like you've received some good responses. I'll add mine so give you another option. I see Dr. Houts in PRior Lake, Cross Roads Medical Center. Dr. Houts is a family practicioner that also does prenatal and OB.

One of the many things I love about her is she delivers her own babies. With my 1st son she drove from her mothers in the middle of the night to 'camp' out at the hospital until I delivered about 10:30 on a Sunday morning. She was great at telling me at each appointment that if I went into labor during a specific time frame she was unavailable so the on-call doctor would deliver, otherwise she would deliver.

She is very patient, will take plenty of time to answer any and all of your questions vs. other doctors that are running away to their next patient when you still have a list of questions.

She has no issues refering you to a specialist if needed.

If you are having more kids, through her you would deliver at St Francis in Shakopee. Personally I've heard too many horror stories about Burnsville and South Dale Hospitals and refuse to go to either place for any reason. I delivered all 3 of my kids at St Francis. My 2nd son was born with a congenital heart defect that was detected after delivery. Had the nurses and/or Dr Houts diagnosed him incorrectly he would have died. Instead he got a helicopter ride to Children's Minneapolis and is thriving at age 7.

My 3 kids and myself see Dr Houts for all of our doctoring needs. (with the exception of my son's cardiologist) It is nice to have everything at one place vs. a different doctor for each person and a different OB for me as well. My husband prefers a male doctor so he sees Dr Markell at the Shakopee office.

Crossroads Medical Center has 3 offices: Prior Lake, Shakopee and Chaska. Dr Houts works out of the Prior Lake and Chaska offices. I think the Prior Lake number is ###-###-####.

Good Luck in your search!
P.
