Looking for a Church in Springfield MO

Since I moved to the area, I have been to a few churches, but none that I really felt comfortable in. Growing up, we attended a realtively small (compared to the sizes of churches around here!) church, where you pretty much knew everyone. There was roughly 100 in attendance every Sunday. I'd like the same kind of church for my kids as well, but haven't been able to find one. I also haven't been able to find a church that preaches what we believe in. The ones I have seen are so strict, and I while I have made mistakes in my past, I don't want to attend a church that teaches my children and myself that I will be going to hell, and that they are the product of sin. I grew up in the Baptist church, and my husband in the Lutheran church. We do not really care which denomination we attend. My oldest daughter has been expressing a great deal of interest in religion lately, and I can't answer all of her questions. I want them to have the chance to be involved in church, and I don't even know where to start looking again! Can anyone recommend a good church to us? And tell me a little bit about the ones you recommend? Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

Freedom Christian Center is a bit of a drive, but an awesome church. It's in Aurora......not really sure if it's baptist, or what all i know is that it's awesome. they do lots and i mean lots of stuff out side of the every sunday thing. Lots of different people from all walks of life and you will never feel more welcome. I went for a while and still attend sometimes as schedules will allow. Let me know if you are interested and i will get you a number for them. Tony is the pastor and he is awesome.

Hey Jenn,
Finding a church was also difficult for my husband and I. We found the greatest family when we joined Messiah Lutheran Church on Seminole. The church does have more than 100 members, but you would hardly know it. The church offers 4 services which fits our hectic schedule. Our favorite is the 9:45 contemporary service on Sundays. This is a great church for young people.
I grew up Lutheran and my husband Catholic. He then went to many other churches. I thought it would be hard to get him to a Lutheran church, but he loves it. I like you did not want to attend a church that was to restricting.
If you would like to try a service. I would be more than willing to meet you if you would like.
Good luck!

I'm a member of Asbury United Methodist. I know it's not one of the denominations you listed, but the people are accepting of people no matter the background. I actually started going there while I was unexpectedly pregnant with no plans yet of marrying because it was my boyfriend's church and the people there were very supportive of us (we're now married and active members). I'd be surprised if you came and were judged by your past. We have three services, an early traditional service, a 9:30 contemporary service (which I attend), and a later service that I think is sort of a blend of the two. Sorry, but I'm not sure on the other service times. Each service has approx. 100, maybe less depending on the service, so it doesn't feel like a big church. We just added on new classrooms and we have good kids programs. Our website is www.asburyunitedmethodist.org if you want to check it out a little more. If you'd like to check us out but don't want to go alone, just email me at ____@____.com and we can meet sometime. I hope you find a place that suits you soon.

You may want to check into Parkcrest Baptist Church. It's a little west of Campbell on Republic Rd. I think it's a great church to be a part of. The pastor is hilarious and tells jokes during his sermon. I've never been to a church that I would laugh during the sermon. He's really good - Dr Gary Gray. I haven't been able to go for a while but I highly recommend it. :)

I too attend Messiah Lutheran Church on Seminole. It is a growing church, but with a small church atmosphere. My husband & I are both very active at Messiah, which is a source of daily amusement for me, since my husband grew up not going to church. I grew up Lutheran, and it isn't the strict setting I was used to seeing from my youth. The pastor is non-judgemental. They have a relaxed setting, and it is EXTREMELY family friendly. We have so many young couples and parents of young children! I invite you to come any Sunday: services are at 8:30, 9:45 and 11:00am. My family attends the 9:45am service, which is our contemporary worship service, and it coicides with the Sunday School hour. Hope to see you there!
