Looking for a Church in Lewisville/FM Area

My husband and I have gotten really lax on our church attendance, and now that our son is getting bigger, I want to get reconnected with a church. The problem is, my husband is pretty picky and will fight me about going if he does not like the church. He is fine with the sermon part of church, but he does not like churches with a ton of singing, and he is not crazy about the "greet the people around you" part either. Does anyone have suggestions on a good church in the Lewisville/Flower Mound/Highland Village area that is fairly laid back and without a ton of singing? I consider myself non-denominational, but I grew up Methodist and DH grew up Baptist, so we are fairly open to the type of church.

Thanks so much!

Hi E.,
We also go to Fellowship. We live in Highland Village and it is not too far of a drive. The kids programs are amazing and our pastor, Ed Young, is a wonderful communicator. I hope you will give Fellowship a try! I have also heard great things about The Village Church in Highland Village too!!

Hi E.!
I also attend Valley Creek Church in Flower Mound and love it! The teaching is wonderful, the worship is amazing, the nursery/preschool is awesome, and the friendships we have made there are the best we have! We go on Saturday nights. We have small kids too right now and that seems to be easier for us instead of trying to juggle Sunday mornings. Come visit!(I know the "meet and greet" is not the most comfortable part for anybody :) but it lasts for probably 10 seconds...)

E.-

Great to hear you are looking for a church! Some of my friends live up that way and go to The Village Church. Their website is thevillagechurch.net You can watch a sermon and find out all sorts of information. My husband and I had the same problem for a while, so I know what you are going through. Good luck in your search!

Dear E. T,

Of course the choice of a church is a very personal matter, so your family may not like my church, but I love it!!! I go to Fellowship Church in Grapevine, right across from the Grapevine Mills Mall. Although there is a bit of singing, it's not traditional. The whole church is very casual, including the songs. You can check it out online at www.fellowshipchurch.com.

Good luck with the search. I've already said a prayer that yall find the perfect church for your family!

Hi E.,

We attend The Village church also. We've been there a year now and absolutely love it. The people there are so transparent about their struggles not your typical put on your best face type of church. It is very laid back you can wear jean, T-shirts and flip-flops and fit right in. We attend one of the Saturday night services and it frees up Sunday to spend with the family.

I read the other responses and have attended or visited the other churches and they are all good churches as well with solid teaching.

I hope you find a church you love.

Hi E.! You introduced me to the Proud Mama's meetup group! I'm looking forward to my son's first playgroup on Thursday!

We are members at First United Methodist Church, Lewisville. We attend the 9:45 contemporary service, but there's also 8:30 & 11:00 traditional services, with Sunday school at all 3 times. The comtemporary service has a praise band, with drums, guitars, keyboard, so maybe your hubby might enjoy that better than hymns? We do sing a lot at this service, though. My 1 yr. old loves dancing to the music! It's a pretty laid back church. We usually wear jeans and are very comfortable. Each service has a different feel, which I like b/c they can reach out to people with different worship styles. I grew up in this church, and went back after I graduated high school in east Texas b/c it's where I feel at home. Children's ministries are a very important part of our church! I also love our Sunday School class.

I hope that no matter where you go, you find a church that is home for your family!

I attend Compass Christian Church (formerly called Highland Meadows) in Colleyville and love it. They are opening a satellite church in Roanoke and the preacher there is excellent. Both Colleyville and Roanoke are fairly close to your location, I think. Let me know if you'd like more info or check out www.mycompasschurch.org.

Good luck and God bless you!

We attend Vista Ridge United Methodist Church. It is a really good fit for our family. We usually attend the 11 a.m. service. It is a mix of traditional & contemporary. We do the meet & greet right before the first song. We sing the more modern hymns, sometimes we sing out of the old hymnal. We like the church because of the mixture of families & really connected with Pastor Tom. We tried out several churches in the area & this one just felt like home. Good luck with your search.

I can chime in for Valley Creek too. There is a lot of singing but it's all in the beginning of service so you can just walk in a couple of minutes late if you like. I don't go there because I live to far but my family goes there and I have visited several times - the preacher there is amazing. The music is really good and it's laid back. They also have an awesome children's church for all ages. Very cool place to worship.

E.,

My family attends Crossroads Bible Church in Double Oak, and we love it. I also grew up Methodist but consider myself non-denominational too. We do have quite a bit of singing in the beginning of the service and usually they give us an opportunity to say hi to the folks around us, BUT I know some other people who also aren't comfortable with that aspect so they just wait until the sermon starts to enter the auditorium. Another great thing about our church is the fabulous child care program. We also have a fantastic new pastor, who is a great teacher. If you would like more information you can visit the website. It's crossroadsbible.org or e-mail me.

We also go to Fellowship Church in Grapevine and we love it so much!!! They are really laid back and the pastor, Ed Yound, is an amazing speaker. We were late getting there yesterday by about 10 minutes and the majority of the music was already over (which I was sad about), but if your hubby doesn't love singing, you could arrive after it is over.
Give it a try - its amazing!

We live in Flower Mound and attend Irving Bible Church in Las Colinas. We love it. It is very laid back and very welcoming. They have an awesome children't program. They do have music, but it is all very contemporary worship music and most of it is in the beginning of the service. They also have an incredible women's Bible study. I would highly recommend that you check it out. There are a lot of families that make the drive, and we all think it is well worth it.

In ready about what you are wanting I felt I was reading about myself. I was born Baptist my husband Methodist. We now go to the First Baptist Church Flower Mound. As I was born and raised Baptist and was baptised I felt very much at home at this church. I had tried and joined the Methodist Church in Lewisville as this was my husband church. Do to some personal things we stoped going, after not being in the chuch for 2 years they called wanting to know what was wrong. My husband felt sence they had not called or come to see us that was that. He now goes with me to the FBCFM and seems to really enjoy going and the people.
The standing up and greating people was hard at first for him but he's fine with it know.
In going to different church's in the area I have not found one that doesn't do the meet and greet. The singing is a part of church of any religion. What I did was pray a lot for God's help with this as well as I went to church on my own. I would ask him to go with me occationaly and he would. I joined an adult Sunday School class for couples, when there was a something going on where the class was getting together I would let him know and he would go with me. When anything would be said about any one in the class not knowing them, I would remind him that he hadn't given them the chance to know him or him to know them. He has not joined but as you know he can't until he publicly excepts Christ and get's baptised. But it has taken me 1 1/2 years to get him this far.
You didn't meantion your mother in law. That is the issue I am having, she says as long as her son is going to church that is all that matters. But at the same time she gets a bad attitude against me when she knows he is going to church with me and enjoying it.
I'll pray for you, but best advise I can give you is for you and your son to go and with different things that go on in the church he will come. It takes time and prayer. I have met a lot of couples at church that have had the same situation and strange as it sounds one of them would be Baptist and one Methodist.
