Still Looking for a Church Home

Hi Moms -

We are still looking for a church home in the Olathe area. I have tried all of the wonderful suggestions you have given me; they were all great places, but nothing seemed to quite fit. We come from a Baptist background, but not the old stodgy type; we like Baptist churches that are contemporary. It is amazing that we just can't seem to find the right fit here. If anyone has any other suggestions, I am all ears. We would like a smaller church, rather than one of the big mega-churches that seem to be so popular here. Also, if they have small groups, that is a big plus. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi C.! We attend Olathe Life Fellowship at Olathe South HS. We've been going for about 4 years, thought about a change, but we feel like we're home. Send me an email if you are thinking about going and I would be glad to introduce you around. The Kid's Life program is awesome, and the pastors are great! The music is great too! D.

We belong to Heritage United Methodist which is at 128th & Quivira. There are 3 different services with the 11:00 being more contemporary. The 8:30 is traditional, 9:40 is traditional/contemporary. We love it there and have always fealt welcome. There are lots of things for kids throughout the year too which our kids enjoy.

Hi C.!
Our church is probably too far, but I just wanted to encourage you that God has a perfect place for you. As you can tell, there are alot of great churches here in KC, and you'll walk into one and it will feel like home. Don't give up the search! (After all, how long did it take to find that one perfect guy, right? But he was worth it!)

Have you tried Grace Church at 159th (?) and Antioch? They have a great baptist background and a really contemporary feel. We really enjoyed visiting them.

There is a church in Olathe called New Journey. I know of it because my son's mother in law attended there. I have been so impressed with the character of their church body. They have been so loving and supportive to her and her family while she was battling cancer. We attended her celebration funeral service there yesterday, and it was wonderful. It is a small church that obviously knows how to be God's hands and feet.

I'm new here so not sure if this has already been suggsted, but I would urge you to come and visit Community Covenant Church at 87th & I-435. It looks big on the outside but you'll quickly find that it is so much like family. It's a wonderful Christ-centered congregation who will bend over backwards to include your family and involve you in the church family. I am from a Quaker background (Friends Church) and had a terrible time finding the right fit among all the mega churches. Community Covenant has been an answer to our prayers.

We go to a non-denominational church in Stanley (at Metcalf and like 159th or 161st). It is contemporary, has great music, small group opportunities, and it's not too big. The name of the church is Southwood Christian Church and we would love to have you visit. Good luck with your search!

Hi C.,
Not sure if tou're interested in something a bit more urban and/or 'edgy', but if you are, and are willing to drive a bit, try Jacob's Well (jacobswellchurch.org). Located in midtown. Very modern and packed with kids. There are some more contemporary Baptist churches in this area as well.. I'll see what I can find if the drive doesn't deter you.
