Which is better for toddlers who are NOT allergic to latex? I thought silicone was stronger, but now I read that latex is better??!!?? Which is better (safer) for a 17 mo old? He doesn't notice the difference.

Oh, more info....sorry...we AREN'T wanting to wean him from paci now...having another baby in a month and a half, that's too much change right now. Our pedi says three is fine and ped dentist says no tooth damage as of now.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

Have you tasted a latex pacifier - especially after it's been in hot water a few times? YUCK! Worse than old coffee. I'd go with silicone.

I agree w/Maggie's response. My pedi said by 18 months he should be off the bottle and paci, My son is off the bottle(which took 2 days) but not off the paci. I only give him his paci for nap/bedtime and when he is really not feeling well.

I have thrown 2 paci's away so far because they were looking bad. I will just have to play it by ear and work on it gradually. I don't think I'm really ready to wean Karson off his paci yet. He's been through so much and I think he needs his comfort Zone too. I am not rushing it, In time it will happen, hopefully by age 2.

Good Luck on whatever you decide.

If he doesn't notice the difference, don't worry about it! No matter what kind you use, just throw it away when it starts looking bad. We're gradually throwing away all of ours and just not replacing them. When the last one goes, paci days are over!

R. - William will let you know which one he likes best - Johnathon doesn't want anything to do with the silicon ones I started him out on - throws them right down - latex you just need to check and make sure not wearing out....

I have only been told two things about pacifiers. The first was to make sure you have a pacifier that is the right size for your child. As they get bigger the pacifier needs to be bigger also. The other that in terms of 'taste' a silicone doesn't taste as bad as a latex. If your son doesn't notice the difference between the two I'd say you don't have anything to worry about.
