Issue with My Son's Hair...

My daughter had the same problem her hair was very, very fine and blonde hair. I sprayed the part of her hair that was frizzy with Johnson and Johnson "No More Tangles" and combed it out. I would do this several times a day if I needed to and left the spray in her hair. I also would use a vial of serum (in the conditioner area of the store) on it once in a while to strengthen her hair. I think she wrapped her blanket around her head and that made it more frizzed. If he uses a pillow try a silky or satin pillow case or a silky/satin sheet for his bed.

Yes his hair will grow out. Try putting some leave in conditioner on his hair morning and night. This will make it softer and mor plyable.

M. you didn't say if your son was a mixed race child. If so it may be permanent.

That's completely normal. It's from,like you said, his bald spot and that's the new hair that has grown in. That's a terrible spot to deal with because it seems at that age that it's always getting rubbed down by the bed or the car seat. It will get better as he gets older, but it might be like that for quite awhile. My youngest son's hair wasn't like that for very long at all (right about when he turned 2), my middle child's hair was like that until right around when he turned 4 (and he has kind of long, curly hair, so it was TERRIBLE right in that spot to get combed out), and my oldest son always looked funky back there until he turned 5 and stopped using a car seat and went to just a booster base. His hair is straight, but right back there, it was always nappy and fuzzy looking. It got better as he got older, but it wasn't completely better with him until just last year. Just keep combing it and slicking it down with water. It doesn't do much, but at least it keeps it from getting too terrible.

At least just part of your son's hair is nappy. My son's whole head is nappy and he'll be 2 next month and his dad still won't get it cut. But nevertheless, I think we all have one area in our head that's a little off. My beautician calls it a nerve spot (I have one where my hair will only get to a certain length) but as for him. I think it just may need a little more attention that the other. Keep it moisturized, conditioned and keep brushing it. Eventually it will all pan out (just pray the straight and fine hair stays that way:-). Take care

My daughters hair is the same way and it gets that way after she has been laying on that spot or sitting in her carseat. It comes from her hair rubbing against something. Her hair is extremely curly too so it is hard to comb out to begin with. I use conditioner plus water in a spray bottle to comb it out or I use Johnson and Johnson Leave-in conditioner. It really helps alot. I do have to do it more than once a day if she wears her hair down because it gets fuzzy in that spot. Hope you can find something that works for you. By the way, my daughter is mixed race, but the conditioner helps and when it grew longer, it did not get as fuzzy. Her hair is soft and more like caucasian hair it's just really curly.

My daughter is 22 months old, and her hair getting long, but she still has that one spot in the back of her head! It does look very nappy! So I don't know when is grows normal, but I'm ready for it to! One thing I've started doing is drying her hair with a blow dryer and it doesn't look so bad. I know this wasn't much help, but maybe it will grow back soon!

my baby is like this. we switched to a detangeling shampoo. it really helped. it may be were he is rubbing it while laying down and getting it all knotted up. sometimes when it is really bad i spray on a leave in conditioner and it smoothes out the frizz and helps get the knots out

lay him on his stomach to sleep,.....easy...he has fine hair probably too hard to untangle....also lots of carrots, Vit. A will help.......

Don't worry about your son's hair my son had terrible hair but the hair has a way of straightening itself out.
My son's hair stood straight up and would not lay down even with oil in it but as he grew the weight of the hair held it down. Your son's hair should straighten out but if it doesn't just look at it like this you have a little angel and you love him no matter what. That spot in his head could also be his birthmark my cousin's little boy was born with brown hair and in the front he had a large spot of snow white hair and the doctor said it is his birthmark. I really do believe that spot will straighten out in time Take care and God Bless.

I have a similar problem with my two year olds hair. She has one spot on the back of her head that turns into a rats nest every day. I find that johnson's tangle spray works really well, or if i just brush her hair really well when it's wet from the bath before bed it doesn't tangle as bad and just a few brush strokes gets it back to normal. hope it helps

M., my mother is a recently retired hair stylist of 32 years.She told me a while back when I had issues with my son's hair, that baby hair is different from children and adult hair.His hair texture and thickness will change as he gets older.So, be patient it should change to normal! lol

That hair will grow out and look fine as he gets older.
This is no big deal. A lot of infants have the same issues.

I don't know about hair patterns or any research stats about why he has a missing patch or the texture is different. I have a son, 3.5 yrs and his hair gives me trouble too. I decided that his hair looking a little silly or crazy doesn't have anything to do with my mothering, so I let him have full, thick, crazy hair. I am a control freek sometimes and I need to let go for my own sake. Maybe you could just trim it up the best you can and let him be 19 months old. I don't mean this in any harsh way, mostly speaking to myself. I always forget to just enjoy my children (and husband) for who they are and what assets they have been given, (good advice for us mothers about ourselves too.)

Yes, this is normal. My son was the exact same way. His hair will grow back. To comb it~I usually wet that nappy part and then comb. If it is still hard to do I would use a small amount of conditioner so soften it even more. Been there and done that! :) C. H

Ive been a hairstylist for 22 years its not just a boy-thing.
dont fret it will calm down. try using a little conditioner on his hair "just in the spot thats crazy" some times the new hair needs mositure to make it calm down. you may want to do this at home sometimes depending on the hair color it may look geasy at times so just a dab will do it!(comb it down)dont rinse it out...thats why I say a little over 2 weeks you will see a better strands of hair in this area..keep the faith take care D.

I dont know if this is true or not but yesterday I was telling the lady who cuts my sons hair the same thing. He's almost 4 and it still does it. Anyway she told me that it was dead hair. I told her that it doesnt feel dead. She said her sons hair did the same thing and they shaved his head and when it grew back it never did it again!Dont know if that helps at all?

I know exactly what you are going through. My daughter is 8-1/2 months and she has the same thing. She has curly hair and is mixed, black and white. So I just keep messing with my hubby telling him that he gave her the nap spot in the back. :-)

Anyway, my daughter sleeps on her tummy and has for a while so I don't think bed head is the problem. I know that when she grabs her hair, it's always in that spot, always. And she makes it more tangled then anything.

My son (now 6) had that problem as well and now you would never even know it. They grow out of it and honestly, I'm sure your little man doesn't care about his fuzzy patch. :-)

We had that problem w/our now 3yr old, and our 20mo old. What worked for us was conditioner or a short haircut for the back, almost shaved. I did the conditioner first......as I didn't want to cut his hair and lose the "baby look" LOL, but alas the haircut was the BEST solution for us. The problem is completely gone and his hair looks perfectly normal. HTHs.

That's normal. All of mine has done that. I've been told it's because they lay on their back and it will grow back.

yes, that's normal from the rubbing against bed, carseat, swing, etc. it will eventually be normal, i can't remember exactly when, but even my 31/2 daughters hair is more "nappy" in that area. you might try using some spray in detangler.

I'm sure that your son's hair will grow out with time. If it is really bothersome, maybe you could consider burring his hair? I know my son had bald patches when he was close to a year so we shaved his head! It was cute but I did cry!

I'd ask your beautician...if she doesn't have the answer check around at some other beauty shops...
