My daughter was born with a full head of hair that thinned out and grew back. She is now 10 months old and it's breaking and thinning again. She eats well and has a varied diet. Any comments are appreciated.

my little guy's hair went through quite a few phases in his first year too...starting with a mohawk, going shaggy, then very short & thin, and settling on what we called the reverse friar (hair on top with a bald strip across the back :). he's now two with a full head of hair! my hair did some wierd stuff too that first year...it takes a while for our bodies to get used to our new hormones! dont worry :)

All 4 of mine did the hair thinning/loss thing. A couple different reasons. Their heads grow faster than their hair can keep up. Another is because they spend much of their time laying down. They're turning their heads from side to side to look at things. They're reclined in most of their gear and carseats. Almost constant friction. The main one is the head growing so quickly though. It will start growing thicker and longer around the 1 year mark when they're sleeping less and moving around more. Some take longer than others though, so don't let it get you upset.

Yip, very normal. If you notice her scalp is also dry and flaky, she may have cradle cap (also very normal). If that is the case, my pediatrician recommended just using a little head&shoulders (I use the generic Publix brand, which works fine) a couple times a week for a little while to get rid of it. You just have to be careful about applying it and rinsing it (I use a washcloth for both to reduce the chances of it dripping into my daughters' eyes).

Cheers!

Hi M.,

Totally normal. My daughter's hair did the same, and she didn't have much length either until about 2 years old. It also changed color in the first year, from brown to red to blonde.

Yikes, get her a nutritional work up.
Also check out WestonPrice Foundation.
Really shouldn't happen, you are right to check it out.
