Is My 17 Month Old Face Rash Due to Teething?
My son is 17 months old and seems to be getting his incisors. He has been drooling a lot and has been a little cranky. He also has this patchy red rash on his face. Has any one else seen this in your child? If so, is their anything that you did to help? My son has a doctor's appointment in a couple of days so I will ask about it there but didn't know if anyone else had some answers before then.
So What Happened?™
Thanks everyone for the great info. It helps to know that others have seen the same thing!

My son - same age, same teeth, lots of drool & same rash! He likes the binki when teething but I've noticed the MAM type seems to worsen it - Nuk not as much. I sometimes feel like teething never ends!

My son is the same age and he's had this rash for over a month now. At first I bought and tried Eucerin but that didn't work. The pediatrician recommended Aquaphor and that has worked wonders! I also use it on my chapped lips :D
I like the small 2-pack of tubes (so I can keep one with me).
It has cleared up his rash entirely. I put it on after his bath at night and in the morning when getting him dressed. The consistency is like Vaseline; a little goes a long way.

My son had the same thing when he was younger. Our doc recommended Aquifor and using Dove WHITE in the tub.(watch his eyes though) It is probably from his teeth as long as you haven't changed soaps, food or are using different wipes or anything on his face. Rashes and teething seem to go hand in hand with my son.

I should think the rash is due to the teething. Sorta like when you get ill and your resistance is down you can easily get a yeast infection.. actually you dont "get" it, the bacteria are there all the time and a healthy body will keep it under control. When you become ill it can surface.
Same thing with baby. The rash is called roseola or some such. It will go away on its own but it would do no harm to feed him yogurt with live cultures in it to replace the bacteria depleted by the weakening of his immune system from the teething. ( Yogurt is also basic need if you have yeast infection)
You could even take ( plain ) yogurt and rub a bit onto the rash..( you too, on your equipment for yeast infection)
Roseola used to be quite common in my day of raising babies.
No harm in checking with doctor but I dont think you need to have any great worries about it hon.
Best wishes and God bless

Hi H.,
I don't know if you are in the same perdicament I was in, but does your son still use a pascifier? My 8 month old son had a red, patchy rash around some of his mouth. He have tried to stop using it and the rash is going away. I took him to the doctor and they never even suggested it could be the pacifier. They perscribed Hydrocotozone 2%, but that did not help at all. They also suggested Aquafor, but that didn't work either. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Both my older girls got a rash. I found putting Aquaphor on it helped greatly.

I had both of mine getting face rashes when teething. I think lots of it has to do with the drooling and the bothering of the mouth. I hope that helps.

dry it completely and then put aquifor on it a few times a day. It is probably due to teething unless you have introduced a new food in his diet.
