I had such great success before, I am going to try again. This time I am looking for a dietician/nutritionist to help with serious weight loss goals. I am carrying around way too much extra weight and do not have will power enough to do it on my own. If there is anybody that knows somebody good in Plano, Allen, or McKinney I would greatly appreciate their info. Also, if there is anybody that is looking to lose in the 80 lb. range and you would like to have a partner to stay in contact with, I would love that too. My goal is not to do any type of diet, but a lifestyle change. I have eaten so poorly for so long I really need help learning how to eat correctly.

What can I do next?

Hi J.,

I don't have a local recommendation, but you can find out a lot on your own through the internet. I recommend www.mercola.com. He speaks about nutritional typing and other lifestyle changes that promote health generally. Different people need different foods. A standard dietician will not likely understand this, as conventional nutritional education is not what it needs to be. Start with his website, read up, order the nutritional typing test, start implementing one thing at a time, see what happens. I can understand your wanting a buddy, but you also sound very determined and goal oriented. Your cravings might be the hardest (caffein, sugar). Know that once you pass through a withdrawal period, the cravings will decrease.

Personally, I think anyone with any kind of health problem, including weight, should be tested for the most prevalent food intolerances, such as gluten and casein. If you can't tolerate these, they will destroy your gut, destroy your digestion, and promote all kinds of cravings and ill health. I recommend www.enterolab.com, located in Plano. They are the best in the business, in my opinion.

Good luck.

You will love J. Pereira. She is in the Campbell/Preston Rd. area. She helped my daughter with some eating issues and we both absolutely love her. Her number is ###-###-####. She is a nutriitionist, doesn't believe in "dieting" as such, and is just a wonderful person. You'll love her!

There is a wonderful weightloss/nutrition department at Plano Presbyterian Hospital. My father sees a nutritionist there and has been going for about 6 months now and has lost around 50 lbs just by changing the way he eats and learing "tricks" from them.

I also need to lose at least 80 pounds and would love to have a diet partner! As far as dietician/nutritionists go, I talked to Cheryl Lawrence over the phone and she seemed very nice with a solid program. I just couldn't afford it at the time. Her web site is nutrition1st.com and her office is in Allen over by the hostpital. My personal challenge is how to adopt a healthier diet that will work for my husband and two young daughters so that we don't have separate meals. I've been working out with a friend at least 3 times a week for the last 6 weeks and that part is going well. Also, I have high blood pressure. Let me know if you want to be diet partners so we can help keep each other motivated.

This is how I have gradually lost weight through the years. I eliminated all carbonated drinks, potato chips, beef, pork, milk, chocolate, ice cream, gum, coffee, drive-thru foods, most breads, no sugar in my tea (honey yes), currently trying to eliminate rice and all candy, smaller portions of potatoes, not eating after 7:30 pm six days a week. I am trying to eliminate donuts, cakes, and pies. I bake something once a week for my husband and have a tendency to eat a portion of whatever I've baked each night. Also, I definitely had a break down last week and ate two cream filled donuts:( I try and walk about a mile each evening, ride my bike about three-six miles on a weekend day. Also, I have increased my water intake... When I am at home, I try and have a ice filled glass at my ready. I eat an apple or banana with either a spoonful of peanut butter or a cup of cottage cheese sprinkled with cinnamon and drink a small glass of cranberry/grapefruit juice for breakfast. For snacks, I eat either a garanola type bar, raw peanuts, fruit, or vegetables. Instead of bread, I will have a tortilla or peta bread. I should join a gym but I have budgeted myself. I could/should do sit ups/exercise while I'm watching DVD's but after working all day/tending the house/walking in the evenings, I want to zone out! Hang in there. Loosing weight can be done. Think of what is "good" for your body.

There is a great dietician I used several years ago. His name is Doug and he works at the Plano Hospital. I think the name of the actual practice he works for is The Center for Lifestyle Enhancement.

Hi! I think it is great that you are ready to accomplish this goal. Making up your mind really is the first big hurdle in weight loss. And you are right, the second big step is finding someone to guide you in the right direction. I personally hadabout 60 lbs to lose. I joined Weight Watchers Jan 2007 and have lost 40 lbs so far. They stress the importance of making it a lifestyle, not a diet, and the importance of coming to meeting for the accountability, ideas, community, etc. This seems like what you were asking for. I hope it helps!
