I'm Falling Apart!

I have two medical related questions:
1.) I have this itty bitty tiny little flesh colored bump right at the baseline of my eyelashes. It's practically microscopic. I have had these come and go in the past, and I am just curious as to what causes it, and if it is potentially a serious matter?

2.)My hair has been shedding very badly ever since the birth of my son, who is now 20 months. When I brush it, it seems to come out in clumps. My doctor said it could be a number of things, such as thyroid problem (which I already know I have), stress, hormones, etc. I recently had blood work taken, and hopefully the results will shed some light. I was wondering however, does anyone have any recommendations as to how I might be able to enhance growth, or deal with the shedding. Any good shampoos, conditioners, etc. that might help with this issue?

What can I do next?

Hi E.,

I have experienced similar symptoms with my hair and also a thyroid disorder. I found it was easily taken care of with a hormone balancing cream from Arbonne. I didn't understand it at first but in my research I found that it is a plant based cream that is bioidentical to our hormones. In the end, our body works better if we have a natural balance between estrogen and progesterone. I can send you to a website of a known expert to take a test and determine your levels and what type of cream would be better. Most people are estrogen dominate and need the Proleif cream. It is in a nice self measuring pumping container and runs around $22 retail. I would be happy to send you more info if you would like. I use the cream for about 2 weeks out of each month and all of my uncomfortable symptoms have gone away (anxiety, back cramps, heavy periods, hair loss and acne). You can't shop for Arbonne with out an id to access the online website but I would be happy to help you with that. ____@____.com

E.! girl dont sweat, it is all nerves. The problem that you are having is nerve relative. How i know is because my son had that problem when i got married. He didnt want me to get married but after a period of time it went away but only after he got used to me being married and he relaxed. And as for your hair. Two things. It is the winter time you automatically shed your hair in the winter any beautian could have told you that. Just go to the beauty shop get a deep condition done and get a baby sitter, first get a baby sitter and than go to the beauty shop after that trip to the beauty shop go to a spa and get a deep tissue massage and get a good spiritual book and read 10 pages of it a day and watch what happens. It will take years off. TRY it, it WORKS!

Hi E.!
I'm a fellow hip 33 yr. old SAHM mother of 2 (B-5yrs & G-3yrs). I had a similar problem and a friend of mine suggested Arbonne's Thermal Fusion Hair & Scalp Revitalizer. It supports & simulates hair follicles. Since then, not only has my shedding diminished, I loved Arbonne's products so much, I became a consultant! If you're interested in trying it out, copy and paste this link: https://secure.myarbonne.com/arbonne/malai.nsf/p1/1?OpenD...

On question #2 I have 5 month old and I seem to be losing more than my share as well. I have heard great things about Nioxin for boosting hair growth. It is sold in salons and it is a whole system. It works a lot on the scalp and keeping it healthy enough to support growth. My mom started using it and has noticed a change. Seriously considering for myself at this point. Good luck. :)

In addition to the responses you have already recieved for your first question (sty--probably caused by makeup; skin tag), I would just add a third possibility. These bumps you get could also be molluscum contagiosum. I have gotten these on and off since I was a teenager, and my daughters have had them as well. They are nothing serious, and most times go away on their, as you have noted. They can also be treated in several different ways by your dermatologist, although this is ususally unnecessary if there are just one or two and they are not really noticeable. I had them around my eyes, and they sound just as you say...small bumps on the eyeline. While they bump is probably just a sty, I thought I would mention that molluscum around the eyes often look like stys.

As to your second question, I would add nothing but a reassurance that many women, myself included, experience significant hair loss after having children. I did what most of these women are recommending and took vitamins, which helped immensely.

Regarding the flesh colored bump, I too have them every so often and happened to be at the eye doctor when one had appeared. The eye dr said it is just a clogged pore, ran a qtip under water and rubbed it back and forth over the bump a few times and it dissapeared. I do it every time now and it goes right away. Hope this helps.

I have one of those too, the way you described it does not sound like a sty or skin tag. it if was a sty, it would hurt! A skin tag would be bigger than what u described and sort of be movable. I believe them also to be caused by makeup, a blocked little pore maybe? Ive read they can be sqeezed but mine is so tiny I havent been bothered to do so. Ill make it look worse!

The hair problem can be real scary. If you have thyroid problems, underactive, your dr will prpobably put you on synthroid or its equiliavnt and as for something you can use, OTC, Hair Cuttery carries a shampoo and scalp conditioner that everyone swears by. It is, Nixom (sp). They say that many people going through chemo use it and the hair still comes out but not as much. I think it would be worth a try. Good luck.

E., try to eat more sea weed, konbu, tofu, shiitake, or soy nuts. You can buy all of them at Whole Foods. They especially work for women's hormonal problems. They even work for men who have their hair troubles. They are good for your child too. Also check the following shampoo or conditioner if you are interested. They are all natural and made of sea weeds. If you need a further assistance reading them, please send me a personal message. Good luck!

I don't know about the first one but if this is the first time your hair is falling out since the birth of your son, don't worry! Mine did after having children, too! I swore I'd end up bald!!! I'd heard that you don't lose hair as usual when you're pregnant and then whenever the hormones kick in to normal you lose it all (the amount you would have shed the 9 months of pregnancy) seem to come out at once! I'd been told about it and was still freaked out! Honestly, it took a good couple of months for my hair to get back to a way I liked it. It got all flat and lifeless and kind if icky looking!
I'd forgotten about it! I'll bet that's what it is. Don't worry! (Call your OB and see what they say instead of a GP)

Well, I do know about the first topic you listed. The tiny bump is called a skin tag. All the women in my family, my sisters and mom and I all got them when we were pregnant. They seem to get smaller after a while, but some just stay. A dermatologist can shave it off for you without scarring. They are not related to cancer I don't think. I think they must start with the change of hormones in your body during pregnancy. Good question!

I can feel your pain about the hair loss. I recently experienced the same thing after my OB/GYN put me on a medication for PMDD. I have since gone off the medication (look at all the meds you're taking - they can also be the culprit) and with advice from my hair stylist (whom I adore and trust) started Nioxin over a month ago and can already notice a difference. IT IS NOT CHEAP, but if you use it daily or every other day, you should notice re-growth within the first week. In the shower I use the shampoo and conditioner (scalp therapy) and out of the shower I use the follicule booster and scalp treatment. They have 8 different lines from thin hair to coarse and with or without color treated, etc.

Hope this information helps. Take care, L.

NIOXIN! I've never used it but it's a line of shampoos and conditioners designed for women with thinning hair. I had a friend who used it just because her hair was fine and thin and it worked wonders for her and even helped it grow faster. It's a little pricey but definitely worth a try! I know they sell it at most salons but not sure about in-store.

To answer your first question.,,it could be a "sty" (sp?, but it rhymes with sky) I used to get those and switched to a better makeup, also I used warm compresses to help with it. The second question, first starting taking a prenatal vitamin which you can get from Wal-Mart, remember it made your hair and nails grow when you were pregnant, will do the same thing again, also, there is a shampoo and conditioner you can buy called "Dr. Miracle" which you can get at any hair supply store, and it rejuvinates your hair folicles.

Good Luck to you!

I had something similar, and, since I'm a contact wearer, it drove me crazy. I had never had it before but thought I should get it checked out. At first, I thought it might be a stye. However, when I went to the eye doctors, they said it was a clogged pore which is very common. It can occur for a number of reasons--stress, not cleaning eye make-up off completely, etc. While I am not a doctor, your description sounds like what I had. They gave me special medicated cloths to wash my eye lids and I threw out the disposable contact lenses I was wearing. I doubt that it's serious, but I would make an appointment to see the eye doctor the next outbreak you have. Better safe than sorry.

Hi E., I used to get those strange bumps at the base of my lashes too but started using Arbonne cosmetics about a year and a half ago and haven't seen them again. The products are swiss-formulated, pure and safe. When I had my twins (now 5 yrs old) my hair started falling out in clumps when they were about 9 months old. From what I understand that is very normal and is caused by the change in hormones, postpartum. Arbonne has a Thermal Scalp Treatment (used after shampooing) that helps regrow hair. I would definitely wait to hear what your test results are and ask your Dr. about a vitamin regimen that can help treat your problem from the inside out. And guess what! Arbonne has vitamins too!

It sounds like you have a skin tag on your eye. Not a serious matter. I found that during pregnancy I developed a lot of them in various places. They have since disappeared. As for the hair loss...I lost a ton about 2-6 months after my daughter's birth. I do not have any remedies for you, unfortunately. Hopefully you blood work with "shed" light on the hair loss. (No pun intended)

E.,
Take it from a great-grandmother--the hair thing is not unusual. I "shed" with all three of mine but it did not last that long. Watch your diet. A b-complex supplement--be sure it contains biotin, will help. Ask a dermatologist about the eye thing. Do you use a lot of eye makeup?

Hi E.,

It may be hormones. You said you were having bloodwork done but sometimes this isn't the best way to test if your horomones are out of balance. Alot of women go through pre-menopause, even at as early an age as 25 or 30 and have similar syptoms. It's caused by an estrogen dominance which is partially caused by all the steriods and other human growth hormones farmers are putting in and on our food to make it last longer and grow bigger.

You may want to check out the book "What your Doctor hasn't told you about Pre-Menopause" by Dr John Lee. Also, the best way to test if you have an estrogen dominance is a saliva test. You can do a cheap self test by ordering a $25 kit from www.salivatest.com.

Hope this helps. If you need anymore info on finding these things, let me know.

I use NIOXIN for my hair. It was originally designed for chemo patients to help ease their hair loss and soften the hair follicles. It is pricey - I pay of $60 for shampoo and conditioner. IT works - your scalp wont be itchy or flaky, your hair is soft, it sheds less and its soft and shiny. My husband uses it also because he has thining hair and he loves it.

Although I do not have an answer to your first question, I do have some insight to the second one. I also lost my hair like you after my first child was born. It kept doing it until I started taking a multivitamin. One of my doctors even recommended starting to take prenatal vitamins again. It had something to do with my diet, but once I started taking the vitamins, it stopped. Well, at least it wasn't falling out as bad. It is normal to loose some hair, I think they said normal was about 100 individual hairs a day.

I hope this helps a little!

Hi E.!!

I couldn't believe how much you sound like me!! I used to get those bumps too and I finally realized that it was from the make-up I was using. I used Cover Girl, but not anymore!! I am currently using products that do not have any "bad" ingredients in them. Our cosmetics and the ingredients in them are NOT regulated. Check out this website: http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/splash.php?URI=%2Findex.php. You don't have to join or anything, just click on No thanks, just take me to Skin Deep. There is a search engine there and all you have to do is type in the company you want to look at. Cover Girl does NOT rate well!!

So I don't know what you're currently using, but I can tell you about what I'm using if you want.

As far as the hair goes... ME TOO!!! I just had number 3 and that started happening to me too! I am taking vitamins that seem to be helping. They actually have a scientific patent on them and they are helping TREMENDOUSLY!! I am also using a scalp therapy oil that is helping my itchy scalp!! WHEW!!

If you want some more info about this stuff, let me know, or give me a call! I would love to share it with you E.!
