How to Remove Chlorine Bleach from Laundry?

My husband has a severe allergy to chlorine. When my son came home from college and did a load of laundry my husband got a rash (usual exposure reaction) and his eyes swelled shut for three days (not normal)! My son did not use bleach in his load at school, but my husband thinks he used a machine where someone did and then brought it home in his clothes to our machine. He could even get a reaction if something is washed and hung up and he wears it later. For now my son can do his laundry only at school and not bring it home, but I'm thinking of over winter break or next summer when he is home for a longer period. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get bleach out of clothes and keep this from happening again? Thanks!

VINEGAR - it neutralizes bleach. Use good old fashioned BORAX as a bleach alternative (you can get it at Jewel). It brightens colors too.

Oh my gosh! I have to tell you about a safe product that I love! I received it as part of a gift from my sister in law. It is called Nature Bright laundry booster from Shaklee. I have been using this in place of bleach, exclusively for about 9 months now. I love it! It has many other uses, as well and is very economical when you break down the price per usage. I have a son with skin allergies and asthma and getting his sport uniforms clean is now a snap with this product! (I am not breathing in the harsh chemicals either). Check it ____@____.com luck! :)

J., I highly recommend trying one of the Shaklee or Melaleuca products. I think the Melaleuca products are more affordable and easier to use. However, I like them both very much. Their websites are easy to use. I've been using there products for almost 2 years now, and I am very satisfied.

Hope this helps!

HI J.,
I have to add myself to group for Melaleuca products.
There is so much in to it! I have been with them for over 3 years ... products and prices speek for them selves! Please, do contact somebody to tell you more about it, 30 minutes by phone shout do it! I started earning second income with them just a month ago. And I have learned so much about whole great company system. And they are great! The whole company, not just products! I have all ready run into Shaklee people. But with my stronger knowledge now,... Melaleuca is better! I can compare for you products, ingrediances,... because I have looked in it deep! And I just heared the October only promotion starting today,... you dont have to pay membership fee $29, just $1, if you become new customer. I am so ecxited and happy to know, that people around do know Melaleuca and are happy feeling good about themselves, their homes, enviroment.
I support Sol-u-mel suggestion! I use it all the time.
One more thing, about bleach, honestly, I heared that, to get it out of your clothes completly, you would have to wash it 30 more time! I hope, that is not true. I think I read it like scientist statment.

Hello J.

I am sorry your hubby is suffering so much. Our family had similar problems with detergents. I did a lot of research and found that it takes at least 16 rinse cycles to get the detergents and bleach out of the pores of your clothes. The chemicals also get reactivated and enter the body when we perspire.

I found a great company where I can shop for botanically derived products which are natural and naturally derived solvents instead of caustic chemicals and keep my family healthy.

They have awesome laundry products that contain no bleach or phosphates. The cost savings for us is huge. I sent my son off to college with these truly GREEN products and now even his roomies are using the products. I am relieved, my family, son, and his friends are healthier.

I would love to share the company with you, it is Melaleuca. You can visit my website at http://LiveTotalWellness.com/YouCanToo to see more about it or visit http://saferforyourhome.com/ to read up more on our family and ECO safe products.

Hope this helps and if you would like to hear more, just email me back.

Blessings
M.

We use only non-caustic stuff in our laundry and I HATE bleach the smell makes me gag. To get it out of your washer try sol-u-mel. You can buy it from me or order it from melalueca.com If you order from me you can get it for the lower price and if you want to join up let me know. We do not do it for business (I have only one other person and she is my best friend.) We just love the products and have been using them for more 6 years. Sol-u-mel is tea tree oil based and it is great. Any ?'s please email me at ____@____.com

HI J.,
I do not have an immediate solution for you, but definately have one for your future concerns! I use a wellness company that has naturally, safer, chorine-free products, including laundry needs. I am certain that it could be a big help to your husband in many ways. Chlorine could also be in other household products that many do not realize, including in your dish-washing soap!
I'd be glad tell you about it. Please check out my website:

Washing the clothes 1 or 2 more times with cold rinse water should do it. They could be hung outdoors to air dry also.

My husband and I also have a slight reaction to chlorine. Whenever I do use it-only for our socks of course-I always run it through an additional wash and rinse cycle without the bleach. You can try this and if more is needed, maybe add vinegar to the wash or try adding Oxyclean. You may want to also run your washer on the hottest cycle available just with soap and add a rinse without soap as well.
