My husband uses a razor blade to scrape off all the stuff that won't come off with the cleaner & a scrubbie. It works really well & nothing stays baked on.

Have you tried the cleaner made specifically for smooth top stoves??? You can get it at Wal-Mart, its a little expensive I think for a small bottle, but it does a GREAT job. Also just a tip, when ever you spill on the stove, try to clean it up ASAP so it doesn't "bake" on.

I try to clean it even while its still in use (take a wet clothe and wipe whtever that spilled) and once its cool enough is when i use soap/brillo and once a wk I use the stovetop cleaning product form Walmart, use it with the regular brillo(or whatever the green ones are called) Ours is 7yrs old and still looks brand new!!

I have a smooth top. I have GE Profile, glass top. I use a smooth top cleaner from home depot (appliance dept). In the same area where you get the cleaner, they have some yellow scrubbies (kind of like a brillo pad but none scratch). I finish everything by CAREFULLY using a razor blade to scrape any excess that the polish and scrubbie dies not get off. Home Depot also sells a straight edge razor tool for the excess.

Of course,,,, I am VERY careful when cleaning to avoid any scratches.

I'll be watching eagerly to see if you get any good answers to this question. I have had one for almost 2 years now and it is impossible to get it totally clean. The problem seems to be that the food gets baked on to the surface and just builds up and gets harder and tougher to clean. Needless to say, I hate these stoves. We have even had plastic melt on them because you can't always tell they are still hot (if the light is covered up by something). I would love to have one of those great gas stoves!!! Next house for sure!!! Best of luck, C.
