Now he has a runny nose, a cough and a temp of 100.4 2 hours after giving him motrin. I dont know if it's from teething or his ear infection didnt go away or if its something else???? any advice?

What can I do next?

Give him a cool bath or childrens motrin to bring down the fever. Consider taking him to a chiropractor.

with it only at 100.4 I'd watch him through the night, He may have to just ride through it. But I would call the Dr in the morning.

Keep on eye on him overnight and call the doctor first thing in the morning. Insist that you bring him into the office for a follow up visit.

ear infections and sinuses are connected. when my oldest had his tubes put in his doc did a antibiotic, decongestant, allergy med and 2 other meds at the same time before doing his tubes. I would start asking the doc about tubes. if he thinks it is necessary. if you don't get them done early it will delay speech and development physically. teethng probably isn't helping the situation any. get him to the doc and don't be afraid to ask if he needs tubes. I did this with my youngest because my oldest had so much problems with his ears the doc oked tubes earlier than they normally do and I am so thankful he listened to me it has made a huge diffrence in his speech the clarity and his physical development. if you ask the worst the doc can do is say no.

My daughter was constantly sick like that too. When she was 2 she had her tonsils out and that temporary solved her sickness problem. Then she started getting sick again at age 4 all the time with constant ear infections and the doctor determined she needed tubes in her ears. I would check with a Pediatric ENT to get some answers

You have some great comments and ideas. One thing I can suggest for a general boost to his health is start feeding him Stonyfield yogurt. It's a little more expensive, but it has great cultures that help his internal health (acidophilus). My son loved their yo-baby line and I really do think it helped keep him healthier.

It could be a stubborn ear infection. Our daughter had one last year that three round of antibiotics before it cleared up. She hasn't had one since!

Does anyone smoke around him or even in the same building with him? My granddaughter kept have the same problems until her doctor asked that same question. When the house became a NO SMOKING zone, the problem stopped.

Please watch him. My daughter had numerous ear infections from age 11-18 months. Because of this, now at age 4 she attends speech theorpy. During that time, childern start to understand the world around them, including sound, nosies, speech, etc. During that time in her life, all of that was "muffled" sounds, which in turn delayed her speech and failed hearing tests. Eventually she recieved tubes. Now since 22 months of age, my daughter has not had one ear infection. I don't mean to scare you, please watch him and don't hesitate to be "blunt" with your ped dr.

ok, my daughter was very sick with breathing issues (asthma with pneumonia) and chronic ear infections. I continually told the drs that she was sick from birth.

We saw a great dr in the childrens hospital a few months ago who said that I needed to stay home with her, as all 7 meds helped to make her well (yes - 7 meds for a 17month old little girl). I have kept her home for 2-3 months now and took her off of all her meds (responsibly and slowly) and she is 100% now.

I know it is NOT possible for all parents to keep their kids home, we sure had to work hard for it. But, if your child has real bad, chronic health issues and it is possible, keep them home to fight off off whatever they have and let their little bodies recover and get strong. I really thought that staying home with her and keeping her out of daycare and mcdonalds and playgrounds was an odd order... but it goes to show some drs really know what they are doing.

Good luck - I am not sure how sick and how this is affecting your little one, but, I know the stress of having a really sick baby and my heart goes out to you. God bless!

Pretty high fever for teething. I would take him to the doctor today to have his ears and lungs checked.

Sounds to me like the ear infection didn't resolve. My son had constant ear infections from 4 months, until 9 months when we got tubes (the best thing we ever did). I suggest you take him back in to have his ears looked at. If he does have another infection, ask for a different antibiotic - when you have back to back ear infections like you are suggesting - normally they need a bit stronger antibiotic to cut through it. Good luck. I know how horrible it is to have a sick little person, and no way to help them!

My son got his first ear infection at 6 months old and never really got rid of it until he got tubes 2 months later. I would get your son's ears checked. Also, as someone else already said, you should definately have your son on probiotics or have him eat yogurt while on the antibiotics. My son ended up getting c difficile colitis from too many antibiotics.... that really is awful!! Good luck! I hope your son is feeling better soon!

call nurse line or visit doc- it could be recurrent infection. teething shouldn't cause this high of a fever with motrin on board. you can also try some probiotics while he is on the antibiotics - can help boost immunity
