my 19 month has had a cold for the past 4 days and she just sneezed with blood in her mucus :/ like not just a teeny bit.. a lot. normal? what is it from??
Thank you everyone for your response :d dr actually said it was normal. Since she has been rubbing her nose so much and sneezing so hard that it just made it sore and worse. But she is all good now. He did say that if it was a contentiously bleeding that it could have been a blood disorder. Just an fyi ;) again thanks!!

I know it's scary - but it's most likely the inside of her nose is all tender from all the sneezing and blowing....she could have some broken capillaries in there...
Like Rachel - I would recommend the saline solution - Lil Noses..it should help!!
Blood from any part of one of our children often looks much more scary than it is ... a small amount looks like a huge amount when coming out of a little one! :) Our noses (especially when we are young) have got loads and loads of really really small blood vessels (capillaries) very close to the surface of the skin of the nasal passages. Its extremely easy for one of those little capillaries to burst due to a violent sneeze, hard blowing (or a small finger) :) Usually there's nothing that needs to be done and nothing to worry about. However, should your kid have lots of nosebleeds, a GP can cauterize the nasal passages. It doesn't hurt and usually once will do the trick. Best of luck to you and your family.
Like some other posters said, it's more than likely just broken capillaires in her nose. A little saline spray could help. If she does it consistantly, or there's a little blood every time she sneezes, or if her nose is simply running with blood in the mucus, call the doc... but start with a little saline spray. It will help get that other junk out of there too :) Hope she feels better!!
It's just a broken blood vessel. Blood vessels are close to the surface in the nose; more so for some than other people. The strength of the sneeze broke a vessel. This is just a bloody nose. Not to worry.
She could also have a dry nose which makes the tissue over the vessels easier to break. Yes, it can be dry even tho she has a cold. It might help to wipe some Vaseline inside her nose. I see you live in Hawaii and so I doubt that her nose is dry unless you've been wiping it alot reaching inside.
It could just be a broken blood vessel if its fresh, but if it hasn't stopped bleeding after a few minutes then I would call her doctor to be sure. Good luck!

Now, if it is from her chest (mouth), she should see a Doctor.
I had that once, during a common cold... and I had Pneumonia.
You should just take your baby to the Doc anyway.
Or, have you been using a bulb syringe on her nose????
If so, per our Pediatrician, if used too much, the bulb syringes can abrade the inner nose.... and make it sore as well. Our Ped said not to use it too much, for this reason.
There is no harm in going to the Dr. Just go get her looked at. They are the experts.
Colds cause a lot of swelling in the nasal passages and that in itself can cause superficial blood vessels to bleed. So, as most people already said, nothing to worry about, unless it is a nosebleed that doesn't seem to stop or that is contantly bleeding. Little Noses or other saline drops help, as well as a humidifier, and if you have been bulb suctioning, probably be very careful about it or hold off because it can cause more irritation or cause trauma if used too aggressively or the baby moves.
