I know there are TONS of places to send your children to dance, but where - in your opinion - is the best? Or even just pros and cons? A couple moms told me that if you sign your child up in Jan that they cannot be in the recital. Any thoughts on this? Thanks for your help and have a GREAT holiday!!

I have two daughters that attend the Chamberlain School of Performing Arts in Plano. We are very, very pleased with what they are learning. My 4-year-old is learning accurate ballet terms and proper form, not just cute dance moves. My 1st grader is also learning accurate ballet terminology, form, dance positions and combinations. Both of my girls have attended other ballet studios and Chamberlain's program does a wonderful job of giving the girls a solid and quality introduction to classical ballet.

We live in Allen just off of McDermott and Alma and the school is at 15th and Independence. It takes us about 15-20 minutes to drive to the studio.

Cindy's School of Dance, www.cindysschoolofdance.com

I taught there for 8 years, awesome. Miss Cindy runs it like her family, everyone who teaches does so because they love it.

They do order costumes in Jan, but if you register now, and give them your child's measurements, they can order them and your child can start taking class in Jan.

I work at Dance Arts Center, at the Community Center in Mckinney. If we can still order the costume, you usually can be in the recital in June. Check out our website www.danceartscenter.net . We offer classes on Tues.& Thurs. afternoons and Saturdays. Hope you find something that works for you!

My daughter was in Cindy's School of Dance several years ago. They are a great dance school and have many years of experience . There is a classical ballet company in Allen as well.
That is for the serious ballerinas who want to do it for a profession someday. That is called the Allen Ballet Company.
I recommend starting out at Cindy's and see how much your daughter likes it. I thought my daughter was going to stick it out and instead her gifting is in Volleyball. It is hard to tell what your child will be gifted in at a young age.

We researched many dance places, as my daughter is now 11 - we had to make a change two years ago, so we did look around quite a bit. She has been at Hathaway Academy of Ballet for the past 2 years, and she LOVES it. She felt welcomed there from the beginning (which is important, since transition and "fitting in" can get rough at her age). It depends on what you are looking for, though. Hathaway's focus is classical ballet and they also offer jazz and modern classes (maybe hip hop, too). It is NOT a competition dance studio. They are focused on correct ballet technique, which we considered important. It is a nurturing environment. There should be no problem in participating in spring recital, since they have not ordered costumes (and do not go crazy on costumes for recital time - ballet dances are done in their class leotard with a skirt, costumes are ordered for jazz, modern, etc). We love that our daughter has the opportunity to perform in ballet productions, such as The Nutcracker (annually) and a spring ballet (Cinderella, this coming spring, I believe). Not sure how old your daughters are. I'd recommend visiting a few local dance studios and finding out what their focus and mission are. For us, we did not want to get involved in a competition focused dance studio, so that was one way we narrowed our search. Knowing what you are looking for in a dance studio will definitely help you find the best fit for your daughter/s.
Hathaway is located on McDermott Rd, between Custer and Independence. I cannot say enough good things about them and I know they would welcome you to come observe or even try out a class.
