Gallbladder Surgey

I have read several posts about people having their gallbladder's out. I had mine out laproscopically on Friday due to biliary dyskinesia. I have one incision that is bothering me. The biggest problem that I am having is the deferred shoulder pain. What are some suggestions on how to relieve this pain in my shoulder? I have been walking like they recommended but that doesn't seem to help. I am not big on taking pain meds. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

What can I do next?

yep I had mine out in June and the gas was the worst part of the whole deal. My sholder hurt and it got so bad that I could not take a deep deep breath with out pain. One thing that really helped me was to take a deep deep breath the best I could and blow out. I had this thing the hosptial gave me that I blew into. Everytime I took a deep breath and blew it measured how big of a breath it took. Anyhow it will pass about the 3 to 4th day. I know that seems forever away but getting up walking and taking deep breaths even though it does not make you feel good at the moment it will help you get through this fast. Hope you feel better soon. I know what your going through!! :)

Yes I had mine out last year and I am so glad I did it... IT takes awhile for the incision to heal, you can put an topical antibiotic on it, If it gets inflamed, don't use it anymore because that would mean you are allergic to it, Like Neosporin or Polysporin.
The shoulder pain is NOT fun, the best thing to do is to keep on top of your pain meds and Use a Heating pad.. Its from the gas they put into you to see everything,,, Hang in there it will be gone in a couple days. I think the first 4 days are the worst,,, Get lots of rest and keep on top of your pain meds.. YOu can eat some Sea Salt to help the digestion and regulating things. Hang in there!

The other ladies are right, it's from the gas...I had it too and I know how bad it hurts! It will go away! The only thing that kind of helped me was to rub the offending spot really hard....kinda like messing with a toothache? Not sure if it really helped but it made me think I was doing something...

The pain is caused by the gas they inflated your abdomen with. It will resolve itself as your body gradually absorbs the gas. If you don't want to take meds, you're stuck. I'm a retired nurse, and my advice is just take the meds. That's what they're for, and it's only for a few days. PS. I had my GB out the same way a couple of years ago. Be glad you didn't have to have it done the old way!!

I agree with Nancy.
I've had many surgeries and that pain you are feeling is from the gas they use to blow your belly up so they can see and navigate around with the laparascopic instuments.
That pain can be REALLY bad, and if you ask me, it hurt worse than the incisions or the procedure itself sometimes.
That air will be reabsorbed and eventually dissipate.
If you don't want to take the pain medication, you can try laying in a different position.
Remember that air rises to the top of things, so if you are upright most of the time, that's why the air gets in your shoulder area. You can try laying with some pillows under you so that your tushy and legs are elevated a bit.
This really will go away. But, I would try the pain medicine if the pain is really bad. And it probably is.

I wish you a speedy recovery!

I have had the shoulder pain and I found heating pads and Gas X helped tremendously. The pain was so uncomfortable - I hope you feel better soon. I also had the incision that I believe they used for the camera (the highest one) was bothering me afterwards. I have a little more scar tissue there but other than that all healed fine. I should have worn things that didn't rub too much. Best of luck to you!
