Frozen Shrimp Help for Tonight, Please :)

I have a bag of frozen shrimp (fully cooked, peeled, deveined, etc, but with tail on). I am currently running cold water over the bag to dethaw them.

I'd like to bake them in the oven, but I have no idea at what temp and for how long, if I should bread or not. (Really, I want to coat and fry them, but trying to go a bit healthier.)

Please give me advice and suggestions! This will be the first time my 2 year old will try shrimp, so hopefully, something child friendly as well. Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the tasty suggestions...guess I'll have to buy some more shrimp and try this a few times!! :)

Also, I am a bit kerfluffled as to why I wouldn't give shrimp to a two year old. My oldest first had shrimp when she was maybe a year old...we just don't eat it a lot and I kind of forgot about it until this month. :) Then again, I also gave my kids peanut butter, too...I dunno. Is there seriously something saying you shouldn't?

You can absolutely give shrimp to a 2-yr old. The only reason I wouldn't was if there was a family history of allergies.

My kids love them cold and plain dipped in cocktail sauce or ketchup.

And I like Mamazita's heating suggestion. Along the same lines, fried rice with the shrimp would be good too!

I would quickly saute them over high heat in a little butter and finely chopped fresh garlic (and splash of lemon juice if you have it) serve with rice and fresh steamed or roasted veges, easy and delish!
Your two year old may be more inclined to like it with a little tartar or cocktail sauce for dipping.

I wouldn't bake fully cooked shrimp, it will make them like rubber.
If I were you I would just saute them with butter and garlic and serve them w/some noodles or rice. Or better yet, serve them cold with cocktail sauce?

My kids all had shrimp and shellfish at 2y/o...but we have NO family history of allergies.

~We just had shrimp tacos and they were SO yummy! My sister made them...thanks for the reminder, I gotta ask for the recipe she used! They were AMAZING! Served w/avocado, cilantro, red onions, tomato and a mango salsa!!

Baking shrimp for too long will dry them out. If it were me, I'd chop up one or a couple cloves of garlic (to keep it kid friendly) and stir-fry them in a hot wok with a little bit of peanut or veg oil. You don't have to go crazy on the oil, just enough to keep it from sticking. (and don't overcook/brown the garlic, either, just toss it in a second before the shrimp.

Serve with some rice and veggies, maybe offer a little shoyu (soya sauce) or teriyaki-type sauce to dip it in if she needs a little sweet. Yum!

If it's already cooked, just serve it cold. Our little one likes it that way. If you try to cook it, it'll just get tough and no one will like it.

ETA: I'm not sure why you wouldn't give shellfish to a 2 year old. Ours eats it all the time and his ped said it wasn't a problem after 1-year old, as long as we didn't see an allergic reaction. Just be sure to cut it up small as it can be a choking hazard.

You can batter them and dip in bread crumbs and put them on a cookie sheet for a baked not fried substitute. But next time, but them raw if you plan to cook them. Otherwise they get rubbery.

Also, saute for a minute in garlic, butter and a bit or parsley and serve over pasta as a scampi. Yum.

Don't worry about the 2 YO. BUt keep an eye out for allergies.

I love shrimp, but I'm not a big fan of cold shrimp. It's just too boring for me (and cocktail sauce does nothing for me).

I really like to do a shrimp scampi type dish. I mix it up. I saute the shrimp briefly, just to heat them up. I like to use non-stick spray instead of oil. I've found that butter flavored non-stick spray really does add a bit of butter flavor to the dish. I like to use Mrs. Dash, minced onion (or powder), minced garlic (or powder) and Parmesan cheese (that one's probably loaded with fat and calories but oh so yummy).

I just saute it all for a couple of minutes and serve it over pasta. We love it. My husband has always liked shrimp scampi but never orders it in a restaurant because it's almost always cooked with wine. (He's a recovering alcoholic, and it's a myth that the alcohol cooks off so he never orders anything with alcohol in it.)

Oops. Kids aren't suppose to have shrimp? My kids have been eating it weekly since they turned 12 months. It's a low-mercury fish. It's good for you. It's easy!

If you are planning on recooking fully cooked shrimp, I'm afriad your child won't like them. They will be rubbery.

By two, they should be just fine!! Unless you have a family history of shellfish allergies, I don't see what the issue is. Since the shrimp are already cooked, cooking them too long will make them very tough. You could make a ceviche type of dish. http://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/shrimp_ceviche/ (I can't get the link to work, you'd have to copy and paste!)

You could steam them in a steamer basket, with Old Bay seasoning. Or, you could sautee them with butter and garlic. The point, is to eat them cold, or fast cook them. Baking and the like will turn them to rubber.

My kids ate all types of fish and seafood at two and even earlier, no problem there.

If they are already cooked be careful not to over cook (don't bake them that's for sure) or they'll get rubbery. I would either just heat up in a sauce pans with a little OO, garlic lemon and serve with rice or pasta.

The only time I use frozen pre-cooked is on a shrimp louis salad. Lettuce, carrots, green onion, hard boiled egg, avocado and a dressing of mayo ketchup, lemon juice and a tiny bit of spicy mustard. Yumm!

We were shopping at the grocery store one day, contemplating buying frozen bagged shrimp, not sure the best way to prepare when the seafood worker shared with us the perfect way to prepare them. He told us to bring a pot of water to a boil, turn off the heat, dump frozen shrimp in and cover for 7 minutes. Sprinkle Old Bay seafood seasoning on and that's it. He was dead on...very good and very very healthy, no extra butter needed :-)

I would saute them in olive oil and some fresh garlic or garlic seasoning of some sort, then serve over noodles with broccoli. I've never baked them, but think that you could toss them in Italian dressing and put them in a glass casserole dish, that would work. Either way, you don't have to cook them long, just enough to warm them all the way through.

Now, I want shrimp.
