Finding a Musician

J.R. asks from Colorado Springs, CO

I am getting remarried in February, and have been looking for a musician to play at our ceremony. I was thinking either a harpist, or guitarist, or a pianist. As my fiance is deployed right now, I am trying to find these special little touches that I can surprise him with. Any know of someone here in the Springs? I have found several, in Denver, Estes Park, and further north. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated!

What can I do next?

I play guitar 12 string or 6 string and sing for weddings all the time. I could send you a song to listen to.

My friend is a harpist in Denver, but I know she's commuted to the Springs before. Catherine Mock, ____@____.com is a lovely Celtic harpist.

One other thing you might want to check out is the Cripple Creek Dulcimer Shop in Manitou Springs; their website is http://www.dulcimer.net/ . Bud, the owner, should be able to recommend local musicians to you.

Check with the Litleton Symphony, a number of their musicians provide these types of services, either in a quartet or individually.

I got married in another state so I can't provide specific suggestions for you here in CO. However, we had a string quartet at our ceremony. I just contacted some of the local high schools and got in touch with the music instructor. She picked 4 of her top students and that is who played at my wedding. It was a great experience for them and they were absolutely perfect. I think I only spent $200 for the whole thing too. Much cheaper than the professionals I had looked into.

Although not a harpist, or pianist, I can recommend 'Trio Romance'..They are guitarist right here in Colorado Springs. I've heard their music and they are pretty good. Here is their new website that they are just getting up and running. www.trioromance.com You can also contact the band leader directly, Antonio Rivera, at ###-###-####. Good luck!

You might consider contacting the piano and guitar stores for referrals of musicians -

I liked the advice on checking with the churches. You could also put up an ad on craigslist that states what you kind of music you want, and how much you are willing to pay ... there are some very gifted amateurs out there that I am sure would love to have the opportunity to perform. I did that when I was looking for somebody to paint a mural on my daughter's bedroom wall. I was very pleased with the results and the price! If you go this route, be sure to ask for either a live or recorded demo so you won't be surprised or disappointed with the performance.

Best Wishes,

A.

Congratulations!
I was going to say check with Churches or on Craig's List as well.
I'm a Wedding Photographer and I know that places like Churches, Reception Halls, Hotels, etc. (anywhere that would normally hold a Wedding) usually has a list of preffered Vendors that they will be happy to reccomend.
You can also check with your Photographr or DJ to find out if they have anyone that they like to work with. This business is all about connections and refferals and the photographer, DJ, musicians, cateres, ect. almost always exchange cards at Events.
I would love to reccomend someone to you but I'm new to the area and am just getting my business restarted here. If you where getting married in Albuquerque then I could give you a whole list of names. Good luck finding someone!
And I think it's FABULOUS that you are thinking about all of the xtra stuff that will make it special for your fiance. My husband was Deployed when we got married and I tried to do the same thing.
I'm sure it will be wonderful! I Love Weddings like this!

I got married in September of 2006 and I had Crystal Creek Music play at my outdoor wedding and they were fantastic. They played all sorts of songs and were very reasonably priced. You can request which types of instruments are played, how many musicians, etc. I had guests raving about them long after my wedding. I think they did a great job!! You might check out their website, crystalcreekmusic.com.
Good luck!

My husband is part of a trio that consists of a singer, piano, and bass. They are excellent, and play jazz. I don't know exactly what they charge but his email is ____@____.com, if you are interested.
