I almost stumped with all the people we have now! lol. Last time we did boys in nice white shirts, I wore dark pink dress and my daughter wore a floral print dress. I only went with one print for one of us because I think lots of prints will clash and distract. So, now I have two daughters, my son, my husband and myself. How would you do this? I was thinking about white tops for all of us and nice pants. I have such a hard time finding something white for the baby, white dresses are hard to come by right now. The pictures will be taken outside at a pretty park, so I think there will be enough color in the background to where we wont all looked washed out in white. I was thinking about doing a print for only the baby, but she has this adorable little pink gingham chair I want to take pics in, whenever I put her in it she does the cutest stuff and smiles from ear to ear, plus its personalized with her name on it so how cute will that be??? I dont know about having a print on her and then putting her on pink gingham. Ahhhh, here I go overthinking things again. SO, has anyone seen white clothes out for babies now?
Or a better option for the situation all together? There are such cute fall clothes out for the kids, but I dont want all the prints clashing.

What can I do next?

I just saw a news report on a HUGE family and their family portrait was shown (which looked great!). They all wore jeans and a solid shirt/blouse. The tops were all nice, many were button up but not all. All shirts were in the same tone of color, so while they didn't match, the colors still went together. You can do this with brights, lights, darks, fall color etc.

I am a photographer and it's a serious nightmare when people wear the jeans and white T shirt thing. I hate it. I never advise my customers to wear that. You could have your self and the girls wear pink and your husband and your boys wear grays or greens. I love pink and green together. Although it seems a little more like spring in those colors. For fall I LOVE browns, greens, deep blues and purples. But for sure, do not go with white. It's a photographers nightmare

Personally, the matchy-matchy thing for family portraits creeps me out. My GYN has pictures of his family in his office, apparently from every year, all five of them in the same colors and outfits...and it's kinda disturbing, in a Stepford Wives sort of way. I would make some effort to avoid bad colors and clashing patterns, but other than that, let the people people vary a bit!

I think I'd prefer something that's not too matchy-matchy.

As long as the baby's outfit doesn't "clash" with her chair and you keep the prints/stripes to a minimum, you'll be fine.

Light colors (white, pale pink) aren't going to look as good.
If anything, match the lower halves of everyone's outfits (black, or jeans...)
Earthy tones might be best for outdoors....greens, burgundy, greys.

THANK GOD for CANDICE M.

My cousin is having her 2 children photographed this weekend, and had talked about having them in jeans and white shirts. I told her I would projectile vomit all over the photos if I had to look at another photo like that. I know, I know, tell you how I really feel, right?... LOL I don't mean to be harsh, but I. AM. SO. DONE. with white shirts and jeans (or any pants for that matter.)

I give have given this advice before... so I will save myself the re-typing of it and send you a pm of my thoughts on family photo clothing choices... (copy and paste from a previous message on this issue...)

Find a cute color (solid) for the baby, that won't clash with the pink gingham chair. Then work off that. Dark Denim always looks good in outdoor photos.

You could do the girls in shades of pink, mauve, cream and the guys in shades of blue, orange or dark green. Think changing leaves.

You could even do football jerseys.

A friend just had a family pic where it was all of them together with the one thing that they loved. She's a writer and had a pen and paper in her hand, one daughter had on ballet shoes, the hubby had some tools ...

When we got together for large family photo (20+ people, outside photo) we all did jeans and a solid shirt. We had pinks, blues, greens, white, orange, etc. It turned out really nice!

We had a a family photo (husbands parents and siblings and their kids) done a few years ago...My MIL assigned each family a color...we got white. My SIL had green. At first I thought oh dear goodness the six of them in matching shirts...but she too all shades of green and mixed them up. It was perfect...there are other colors like turquoise, and blue.

I'm not all matching matchy either. But the above was a great compromise.

Maybe you put the baby in the only color outfit instead of all white.

Well I love the uniform look of matching shirts...I think it looks great especially if you have a busy background. ie. forest or trees with changing colors. You want the viewer to notice the fam and the background. That being said...I plan for the Christmas photo where my DH and two boys will be wearing red shirts.....and My DD and I will be wearing a black and red pattern to add to the depth of the photo.

Really it is a matter of preference but if you are going to hang any of these photos in your home, I would assume you want it to draw attention in a positive way. Busy background/backdrop...less pattern clothes....plain background/backdrop....spice up the clothes a bit with a splash of color or pattern that blend well with everyone.

when all my siblings and I got together t do family photos we did the guys in white shirts , black pants , girls in simple black dresses, a couple of them had some white trim on the dresses but they turned out really well
For white clothes for babies try a kids specialtiy store. They have a really fancy kids clothing store at the mall here.

Dont do white it washes out everiones face. Darker colors are better. We just had our photos done and did dark grays and dark purples.
