I dont know what they are. They dont hurt him, they are just kinda here and there. He says he itches, but still I dont know. I am iffy because he suddenly appeared with pink highlighter on his sneakers. He said a kid at school wrote on his shoes, but then today he is associating the pink lines on his shoes with the pink lines on his legs. We scrubbed his legs down, but still I am just confused. And I mean I had to really look to see them. He said he went to the clinic at school today because he was itching, but they didnt call me. He is 9, very active in sports and getting ready to start back in football season.

If they are still there, should I be concerned? Anyone else seen this? I searched webmd and nothing came up....

What can I do next?

My first thought when I heard this was scabies which is sometime described as faint pink lines since the kids scratch lines in their legs. It is bothering him enough to seek out the nurse at school, so it wouldn't hurt to take him to the pediatrician.

If your son or the other kid marked on his legs, it's likely an allergic reaction to something in the marker. They're generally non-toxic, but it's still possible to be sensitive to a particular dye or other ingredient in the highlighter.
You might want to try a little hydrocortisone cream on the spots that itch. That should relieve the discomfort. If it continues for more than a couple of days, it might be a good idea to call your doctor.

if they itch they could be scabies - the lines are burrows and they itch like mad, usually on the shin area and forearm.

VERY contagious

Try and cleaning them with alcohol to make sure they aren't marker. My daughter got into a stamp and it wouldn't come off with soap and water and I was freaking out becuase it was round and looked like ringworm, alcohol took it right off! Also my son got into the shower with a sticker on his tummy and the ONLY thing that got it off was alcohol. Try this before you do anything!
