Experience with Reversal Vasectomy

Hi Moms,

Just curious if anyone has had experience with your husbands getting a reversal on the vasectomy and if there was any luck conceiving. And whether or not insurance covers it? I am having an overwhelming desire for a third baby. We made the mutual decision three years ago after our second child was born that we would be 'two and through'. But now I am wondering if it might be possible to try again.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi N.,

I don't have any advice on this topic, however, I am curious to see what responses you get. I am feeling the SAME EXACT way - and have been for the last year or so. We too made the mutual decision that 2 would be suffice, but I can't help it - I truly want another child with all of my heart. I have dreams about it & at times it can get a bit overwhelming for me because I just loved those stages & miss everything about it.

We too were thinking about getting a reversal vasectomy done - I'm almost positive an insurance company won't cover it & i also heard that chances are slimmer to concieving (I hope that information is wrong though ...). Let me know what happens - if you decide to do it & if you do, how things turn out!

God bless, C.

It worked for my brother, although his swimmers were low and she ended up taking fertility drugs. Triplets then a set of twins at 50. Can you imagine!!

A friend had it done and he warned my husband that if he had a vasectomy (we are considering) just to "make darned sure he's done." He said the reversal procedure is waaaaay more painful than the vasectomy. He successfully fathered two more beautiful kids, though.

Hi N.,

I have no experience with reversal vasectomy, but I do have a friend that tried to reverse her tubal ligation. It was not covered by insurance and it didn't work. She had in-vitro fertilization and had to pay out of pocket for that as well. So I would probably think that insurance will not pay for the reversal. You should call your physician and insurance company to check that out.

Good luck.

N.,

My friend's husband had a reserve vasectomy and unfortunately they did have complications. He had two kids in his previous marriage so everything used to work fine. It turned out he had "slow swimmers" apparently something that can happen with this procedure. They did end up getting pregnant via ivf (3rd try). I have no idea about insurance since they live in Holland. I wish you all the best...just be prepared in case it is not as easy to conceive as with the other two!!

Good luck...my thoughts are with you!

Hi N.,
I realize I'm lagging behind but wanted you to know that close friends of mine just went thru this and now have a healthy, beautiful seven month old boy! There were a couple of miscarriages before she was able to carry to full term but I don't know if they were related to the previous vasectomy/reversal. Hope everything works out for you the way you would like it to.

I work in a urology office that preforms reversal. Insurance almost NEVER covers this procedure, but it easy to find out if yours does. Just call the customer service number on the back of your card and ask. Some people who come into our office seeking reversals have luck conceiving, but others do not. I am not sure what the percentage is. Your best bet is to make an appointment and talk with a urologist and get his/her opinion.
Good Luck!
