Ear Infections and Chiropractors

My two kids are both prone to ear infections. My 4 year old had tubes put in last year and they are now out and she has fluid again. Her ENT put her on Claritin and Nasonex to see if that will clear up the fluid. My 2 year old has a bad infection in one ear now and the antibiotics aren't working. They were not/are not bottle fed, no sippys in bed, etc.

I've heard good results with taking your kids to a chiropractor for ear infections. I would love to get some insight about this and also reccomendations in the Oak Park area or somewhat nearby.

We are willing to do tubes again for our older one if we can't seem to clear up the fluid on our own but I would like to avoid anesthesia and allergy meds if I can.

Thanks, M.

What can I do next?

Hmmm... Chiropractic can help, however I have had nothing but bad luck with them on both sides of the fence: as a client and for working with one. Many will try to use the insurance money (which locks you into them.) or they will use scare tactics if they have fancy machinery.

I would recommend CranialSacral Therapy first. This truly has helped and I have read research on it. Another thing that has helped my son (also had tubes and infections w/ tubes but not nearly as bad or long)... I have given my son reflexology treatments: This helps to clear the cold stages (as most URI's lead into the ear infection - at least for my son) and in the ear infection stage, a reflexologist can focus on those areas. I have had luck with my son and a few client's little ones by getting rid of the infection if not the next day, it was the second day after seeing them.

Just two other natural alternative options to consider. And Reflexology can easily address allergies - I do this for myself and my son daily, as well as clients. Check your area for a practitioner.

Edit: The chiro I worked at did not believe in my work (reflexology / massage. He really wanted to just have it in his office to attract potential clients. Plus he overstepped his bounds by trying to adjust my little boy w/out my permission when my son was with me one day. That was my last day as I was livid. that is dangerous as he could have caused serious nerve damage as I was holding my son.

Try a chiropractor! Both of my boys have been seen by chiropractors since they were born. They only go in maybe quarterly, but having a spine that's aligned as it should be makes a HUGE difference. When you look for one by you, be sure to ask if they adjust children. Get someone with experience with kids. And if you don't like your first choice doctor, try another one. I've seen over six in my lifetime (I'm only 31) due to moving or style of adjusting. Chiropractors are definately worth your time.

I heard from 2 moms who had ear tubes with their kids that stopping milk products works.

Also you can give them probiotics like accidophilus and lactobaccilus.

Have never tried Chiro but wouldnt rule it out. I'm also amazed at how acupuncture seems to heal so many things (according to the mamas!)

Hi M.,
I really believe in chiropractic also. But make sure you find someone who is good.
My son had way too many ear infections as a toddler (before I knew about chiropractic). A friend recommended Shaklee supplements. As soon as he started taking them we no longer had a problem. If you are interested, you can check them out at http://www.shaklee.net/healthforlife
Good luck and God bless.

The doc tod me our daughter had a BAD double ear infection and gave us a prescription. I brought her to the chiropractor instead. When we went back for our re-check a week later he said her ears looked GREAT. Finish the medicine because it's working really well. GUESS WHAT! She NEVER GOT ANY OF THE MEDICINE!!!!!!

So we are big believers in the chiropractor. HOWEVER, there are good ones and there are bad ones. We've been to three good ones and two bad ones...... If they are telling you to come back constantly, they may be in it for the money. If they rush and are only in the room for a minute, I suggest trying someone else. Have a list of questions about the concerns you are having with your children. A GOOD CHIROPRACTOR will take the time to talk to you and answer those questions.

Good luck.
