Do You (Or Your Guy) Grill in the Rajn?

I grilled in the rain last night. I also grill in the snow. I'd rather get a little wet than have dishes :-)

We grill in the rain all the time.
If we DIDN'T grill in the rain, we'd never grill.

My son is actually the griller in the family. I am his "assistant". We wear hooded jackets and go for it!

Yes, no problem. Leave the grill where it is - I disagree with moving it close to the house, it can melt the siding if it's anywhere close. I also wouldn't put it under a deck, because you don't want to catch the deck above on fire. The grill itself will work just fine in the rain. Then just keep an umbrella by the door, and run out to check on the food as needed.

I didn't know people DIDN'T grill in the rain! LOL! I live in WA, just north of Seattle. If we didn't grill in the rain we would never grill!
We grill in the rain, sleet, snow, sun....everything in between.
We just hold our umbrella and go!

Yes!!! Husband knows that if it's raining? I will most likely put him on the grill!!

The only time he doesn't grill is if it's lighting or strong winds!!

Sure. As long as it isn't pouring we just grill as we normally would.

yup. and snow. and hurricanes! (which are annoying because they keep blowing the flame out.) our patio has no roof or umbrella. i just toss something over my head and do it.
my grill is currently limping along on one burner. my dh needs to get on that, because i love to grill.

I never thought of safety concerns much... So yes, we do. I might not in a hard downpour but otherwise, I just take an umbrella or I get a little wet. If it was going to be unending tending to the grill for a big party it'd be more annoying but otherwise I just run in and out.

We have a tailgate tomorrow and it's supposed to storm. We'll have the tents up to hang out under. We'll also have our tents that cover the BBQ pit.

I say keep your plans. Just hang out inside when you're not tending to the grill.

yes we do! We are from CA originally and we grill year round, even in the snow, lol. I can not live with out grilling :)

Yes, we grill in the rain, and in the snow too!! I usually have my husband do it when it's crappy outside, and really he doesn't mind. Just make sure you are organized with all the plates, pans, and utensils and seasonings, and it won't be so bad. Have fun!

If it's a downpour we won't but otherwise we will. We move the grill close to the house and keep an eye on it.

My brother does it all the time. Please do not grill anything that requires you to stand there and tend it the whole time! Also, please definitely don't put the grill under a deck or other structure due to both fire risk and risk from the gases it creates. Just have it outside where you normally do and close the lid except when you check on it.

If it's truly a pouring rain, of course, change your food plans since that would be pretty miserable even if you're just checking. If this is a party or other special occasion where you don't want to risk anything being a bit singed....you might reconsider the grilling idea too.

I wouldn't stand out there in the pouring rain and stand over an open grill. But I would go out and turn or adjust and run back in.

I love smoking, rain or shine. I've even grilled upon occasion in the snow.

No awning/umbrella...likely would melt. I grill in the rain. Not in the lightening.

My folks grill from March - NOv in NYC's changeable weather. Unless its pouring, it isn't a problem.

Definitely. Anytime of year, but not during thunderstorms. Umbrellas help. Enjoy! :)

I have friends who do, but I don't. If it rains, I just cook inside.

No, but we get so little rain that it's just easier to wait for dry weather (in Texas).

Nope! Not unless it starts in the middle of grilling.

Actually, I don't know anyone up here (in rains-10-months-a-year-land) who does. Except the frats. Im sure done do, I just don't know them.

What people DO do, however, is use:

- damp ended wood chips in oven OR
- liquid smoke in marinade/rub (steak, ribs, burgers, seafood), or slow cooker water (for things like pulled pork)
- alder planks (soaked, again)
- cast iron heated up to a zillion degrees for char/searing

All the taste of BBQ without getting soaked, smoked out, or cooking on uneven coals (rain makes grills heat unevenly as it gets the coals wet)
