Who Grills at Your House?

I grill here, I just cook everything. I like it and I'm good at it. However, I DO consider him responsible for grill upkeep and gas/charcoal.

Recently at my neices's grad party, my sis asked me to do all the grilling. No problem. My BIL was passing by so I asked him to light the grill, as it's a big fancy number that I'm unfamiliar with. He said, "Uh, let me ask your sister". Grin. She lights it, seconds later, push of one button.

I see all these summertime commercials and the media overall suggests grilling is A Man Thing. But that has not been MY experience.

How 'bout you?

Happy Friday!

:)

It's my husband's job around here, and he loves it! My parents always ask him to man the bbq at their house too. It works well....he grills while I make everything else - then everything is ready at the same time and we can eat while everything still hot! I really can't imagine running in and out of the house trying to do it all! lol

My husband thinks he is the griller. He lights the coals, he cleans the grill, he puts the meat on. I'm the one that takes over after that if I want "good" meat ;), then he takes the meat off and brings it in.
Makes me mad tho since both my dad's always did the grilling and it was always so delicious. Good thing I paid attention back in the day.

Moi!!!

I learned from my dad... Who has spent over 40 years perfecting steak. He's still not done, yet. Makes going to a steakhouse stupid, since his got better than theirs about 20 years ago.

I never really expected to be 'the griller', but when I was 17 (military early enlist), the boys kept ruining the food. Back AWAY from the grill and get me a beer! You! Put that down. Scoot.

The women in my family also traditionally end up being the power tool people. My dad got mad bonus points at work for that. ROFL... No one ever really BELIEVED him when he said the table saw he was getting my mum for mothers day was for HER. Everyone wanted to know how he got away with that stuff and still had his wife smiling and sending in his lunch / not sleeping on the couch.

Well in our backyard there sits two grills, a Weber kettle and a kamado grill, four units in total. They are our mixed family. One mine, two his and one ours. I do most of the grilling on my Dukane. It is my baby and I know it well. His Webers he works with though the kettle is apparently the child cast aside when the kamado was born. :p The kamado is the problem child that apparently only a father can love so he deals with the petulant child with a strange sense of pride when it out performs my favorite child.

I COULD do it. But why? When he is so willing?
I just keep the charcoal in stock along with the other groceries, and pretty much anything that I plan to bake, if he is home, he will say "You want me to grill that?" and I say... "sure". Then I make the side dishes and sit down, while he deals with it.

He even grilled my meatloaf about a week ago...

If it's during the week, I will usually start the grilling...then when my husband gets home he takes over while I finish up insides. on the weekends...he does the grilling. Not that I can't do it...he likes to and does it well. and I get some quiet time in the house preparing sides and setting the table. Not the best "me" time, but it's quiet because the kids like to hang out outside and "help" grill.

I replied this on Jo W's follow-up question. It hit 114 here yesterday. We don't grill AT ALL in the summer. Who wants to stand outside in HELL and add to that by standing over a HOT grill? Not us! So we use the Foreman Grill inside. We do all of our grilling in the winter when it's "normal" weather...65-75. =)

My husb is a grill master. He can cook anything on the there.

However, since we got a gas grill (I can't do coals very well at all) & I'm
the one home during the day I get dinner ready on it.

I love the new gas grills because I can just turn it on (not having to
"work" at it) & can have meat, veggies done in a jiffy.

LOL! I WISH my husband was one of those grill guys on TV, just like I imagine he wishes I was one of those perfectly fit young and perky housewives!!!
He grills but only because I hate to. We both prefer charcoal (ya, ya I know carcinogens, bad for you, blah, blah, blah) so grilling is more than flipping a switch around here. I try to make it as easy as possible for him, I buy and marinate the food, he just needs to start the coals and cook it. I'm lucky if it happens twice a month :(

ETA: Grandma T, that's exactly our scenario on the weekends when 'we' grill! LOL :D
I do it and I love it. It does get a little rough if I have other things cooking inside, but really, my hubby gets home from work late, so I don't have time to wait for him to get home and light it or to cook. Besides, it never turns out right when he does it; I'm better at it ;P
And I buy the charcoal/lighter fluid bc I do the grocery shopping.

My husband does. But on a side note we had to work snack bar at my daughter's all star tournament. each team was required to have 3 "dads" to "man the grill." one of the other moms on the team (who was preggo so was not going to work a 4 hour shift on the grill anyway) was like "who says it has to be the man??" she does so at her house and she is really great at it too. We had a party there and she handled it all! Men just like the fire part so that is "Manly" but many women rock the grill.

I am the master of my kitchen. I cook almost every day - from scratch with no recipes (trying to pat my own back now). I can light the grill, I can grill veggies. In general, if it is cooked on the grill, hubby does it and does it well. Chicken is always juicy and steaks are pink and perfect - I don't know how he does it and I don't ask. I do all the prep and he works the magic. PS - although he wouldn't starve if he had to cook himself something for dinner, it really isn't something he wants to do and he wouldn't call himself a cook in the kitchen. The grill is his domain.

I generally do the grilling. This evening I made beef brats and grilled sweet corn with a chili lime mayo spread.

My husband does grill on occasion, but is a compulsive meat flipper. :)

I laugh when it's assumed that grilling is a man thing. I have friends who insist that it's manly to grill and the women should stay near the stove so "no one gets hurt". Unfortunately I have had the dubious honor of eating grilled salmon with a 1/4 inch of char, among other grilling disasters, compliments of the man of that house. Gross.

It used to be my hubby, because I was afraid of trying to grill and manage the kids at the same time. That was when we had a wind-damaged fence with giant gaps in it that allowed access to 3 neighbors' yards, and the street. Since we replaced the fence this summer, I now can have the kids out in the yard with me and grill without waiting for my husband to get home from work. YAY!!! I must say, I make a GREAT steak :)

Growing up, my dad was the Grill Man. For some reason he thought that steak and hamburgers had to be done to a crisp. I never realized how good steak and burgers could be until I went to my cousin's house and had something done medium-well. YUMMMMMY! Wish my mom would have been the griller for all those years; that lady can COOK!

I'm the one here. He lights it though. I don't like the sound it makes when you light it. I'm a fantastic griller if I may say so. Especially steaks. I get it just right, slap some A1 on the side , a baked potato, a salad and we're all good. Its definitely not a 'man' thing in our family. Even with my parents....my mom is the griller and dad just sits back drinks his beer. :)

I do the grilling. Whenever we go to a friends house or to a picinic the men seem to grill. My husband's friends always make fun of him because he doesn't grill.

It is a man thing in our family.

I grill.
My dad and his dad used to grill.
My sons and sons in law grill.

I do such a good smoked turkey, that I'm always requested by other families to grill/smoke one for them at Thanksgiving. I've done 4 or 5 turkeys each year for a long time.

BTW, I use charcoal and mesquite wood for smoke.

I've asked my wife if she wants to learn several times, but she always turns me down. I quit asking when she told me she didn't want to compete with perfection. . 8~))

Good luck to you and yours.

I'd LIKE to grill. I TRIED to grill.

But two years ago when I got over my fear that our grill would blow up in my face, and I finally gave it a try, I nearly singed off my eyebrows trying to light it. Haven't touched it since. :-(

Would really LIKE to grill...alas, my husband is happy keep doing it himself. And since he's so good at it, I'm happy to let him! :-)

We both do but my husband grills more often than I do. We only have a charcoal grill. I think if we had propane or electric I would grill more often. I get frustrated that I have to wait for the coals to get to the right temp. I never remember to start the grill in advance and then I end up with complaining children who are waiting to be fed.

My husband grills. Not that I *can't*, but it makes him feel good to "be the man", I guess. Of course, while he's out there staring at the meat, I'm inside washing, prepping, chopping, mixing, cooking, and plating the rest of the meal. But since HE *cooked*, guess who gets to clean up?

Interestingly, the exact same situation exists in my parents' house. Dad grills the meat, gets FULL credit for the meal, while mom busts her butt doing EVERYTHING else!

Oh well...I have to admit, the meat is ALWAYS perfect.
