I don't know where to begin, exactly. We are looking to buy our first new dishwasher and we are hoping it will last us a good while. I think we want a deep-tub because we have large dinner plates we want to fit. I don't want it to be super-noisy, and I don't want to have to worry about cleaning the dishes BEFORE they get put in the dishwasher so they come out clean. We have a family of six. Mostly, I want a dishwasher that won't break down... and I don't want to spend over 500 bucks... Any good reviews you mommies have for your dishwashers? ...or bad reviews? Suggestions? Thanks very much!

So What Happened?

Thanks! I took into consideration what everyone had to say. We are getting a Bosch. I hope it works out!

My Maytag has a stainless steel lining and is fairly quiet. I NEVER pre-rinse anything! It also has one side that is deeper than the other in order to fit large or tall items - the best of both worlds.

Ktchenaid, Kitchenaid, Kitchenaid! My husband used to sell appliances and that's the first one to come out of his mouth. There are others like Bosch, Ariston, Frigidare that are good but Kitchenaid has such a high ranking and he never had any returns. We just bought one. It is the lower end with only three settings but it has a stainless tub and it is super quiet.(We have an open floor plan and quiet was a must.) We got it at a discount store and paid $350.00. It's around $500.00 online.

Stay away from GE, Hotpoint and those that are made by them....

I have a recommendation before you start - check the height of your counters. We have an older house and discovered (after purchasing a dishwasher) that the "new" standard height is 34 inches. Or counters were 33 and something inches. Fortunately, we bought from somewhere that took it back if they couldn't install it, but we had to buy an ADA compliant dishwasher, and couldn't get anywhere near our first choice.

We have received recall notices for our previous Kitchen Aid and GE dishwashers so this time we went with the BOSCH and LOVE it!! I don't think you can get one for under $500 but you get what you pay for. Do your shopping around. We found the Bosch on sale at Sears, then took the ad to a high end appliance store who offers extended services for free and they agreed to sell us the dishwasher at the Sears price and included all the extras at no additional charge!! Good luck.

I have a Maytag Quiet Series 100. If this is quiet, I'd hate to see what they consider loud!! But it does clean well.

BEFORE you purchase one, I highly suggest going to this website first. There have been huge problems with many Kitchen Aid dishwashers. Very scary. My sister in-law just had her dishwasher start on fire this past week. It is a known problem and this site will give you brands and model numbers to stay away from:

I have a Bosch and love it, but I don't think you can find one for under $500. My mom always had a KitchenAid growing up and they never broke.

FWIW, my Bosch is 5 years old last month and hasn't needed a single repair or had a single problem.

Kitchen Aid. I have a higher end model, with the stainless inside and LOVE it.

This is my 3rd dishwasher in 10 yrs and it is by far the best. The first was GE Profile (sucked) and high end Maytag (sucked).

You get what you pay for.....I've not seen anything for $500. We paid closer to $1500 but we got a great machine!
