Diapers - What Kind?

My daughter is 21 months old and we've been buy Pampers since she was a newborn. Well they are getting expensive because she's wearing size 5 and you don't get as many in a box. I'm wondering if there is a store brand that is similar to Pampers. Like Target or Wal-mart brand (they are cheaper). I'm afraid to try them and then get stuck with a bunch of diapers that we don't like. She had horrible diaper rash as a newborn and Pampers were the only brand that didn't irritate (we tried Huggies & Luvs). Now I'm just afraid to try anything else. Thanks for your help.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

I bought the Target brand ones on Friday and we used them all weekend. I don't think she likes them though because she has been holding her pee and going in the toilet more. So maybe this brand is a good thing. We're just starting to PT and not ready for pull-ups or underwear yet. Thanks for all the advice. I think I'll keep getting this brand.

when my daughter was a newborn we tried Pampers, Huggies, and we liked them then. However, as she got older we switched to Walmart, Parent's Choice. We never had a problem. We even noticed she didn't leak as much out of them. I will probably start my next child on these.

We have twins and buy all our diapers at Costco. They carry Huggies and the Costco brand (which is manufactured by Huggies). I buy which ever I have a Costco coupon for. If your daughter gets irritation from them, Costco WILL take them back, opened, etc.

I exclusively bought Huggies for my son when he was a baby, not even thinking about buying a store brand until my girlfriend did the calculation and we figured we could save about $.25 per day switching to the store brand! I started purchasing Target brand for him at 9 months and he wore them up until the time he was potty trained recently and still wears one at nap time (size 6).
I have a 7-month old daughter and bought Target brand for her right off the bat. I love them! They have worked great for us. I do still put her in Huggies at night - they are more absorbent and since she is sleeping through the night I need to extra absorbency.
I hope they work for you!

We use cloth diapers at home, but disposable when we're travelling or out and about. I never wanted to spend more money on the expensive diapers, so I've always bought the store brands. My mother-in-law, on the other hand, always buys Pampers to keep at her house when we visit. In my opinion, the only thing that really makes Pampers better is the stretchiness of the tabs, better, Velcro, and pictures of Elmo, who my son can't get enough of. The Walmart brand has pretty stretchy tabs, but do seem to get more saturated overnight than the Target brand. We almost always get the Target brand, and they have served us well.
Good luck,

Kirkland diapers from Costco I think are the best next to Pampers. I use to use pampers until I found these. For $35 you get 184 +/- diapers in the size 5. If you don't have a Costco card you could go with someone that does and just use cash, (my sis-in-law goes with me all the time) and they also have Huggies for $40 and you get about 150 or so, not exactly sure on the huggies but its close to that. In my experiences Target brand and Walmart brand have given my kids rashes and they're not good at holding a lot of pee. Luvs aren't bad either unless you have heavy wetters.

At 21 months her skin may be less sensitive than it was when she was younger. I say, buy the smallest package you can and give them a try. You'll save money in the long run if you find they work. If you find they don't work, you could probably donate them.

I had the same problem. We ended up using Costco brand and it is really identical to Pampers. We tried Target brand and that worked for a while, but around 18 months when they started moving alot and peeing more at night, we found Target brand came off too easily. Hope that helps!

We use primarily cloth diapers, but when we do use disposables, we use Target's store brand. I think they work just great, never had any problems. My son is wearing size 6 in diapers, and a case of diapers is only $13.
