Daughter's Sleepover Party Theme.... Ideas Please!!!

Have a rockstar fasion show. You could buy cheap sequin fabric and other fabric that is marked down. Divide the girls into groups and supply them with scissors, fabric, safety pins, and anything else that would help making an outfit. Each group should make a rockstar outfit followed by a fashion show!

Musical nails is a fun game with fun finger nail polish. They pass the nail polish and everytime the music stops they have to paint their toes the color they have in their hand. Usually someone will end up with four or five different colored toes! It is best to spread the girls out on a big sheet so you don't have to worry about floors.

Pick out some music that they like and let them put together a dance to go with it. Pin the tail on the donkey can be put the mic in the rockstar's hand. A music movie might go over well.

If you have a Wii, the game Just Dance is well worth the money and I think it's easier than Dance Dance Revolution. My daughter had a sleepover party for 10 girls (all 8 and 9 years old) in April. Their idea of dancing was running in circles while screaming. I put Just Dance in the Wii and they all lined up and danced to the game for over 2 hours. Only 4 girls can play with the Wii at a time, but the rest of the girls danced along with them. We even had 2 girls who were reluctant to dance, but eventually they got into it too.

a few thoughts:
- pictionary where all the words are music/concert related
- name that tune - have clips of various songs and see who can guess them
- and not sure what the name of this game is, but you pick a word at random and the participants have to think of a song that has that word in it and sing the part of the song that has the word - so for example if the word was "fun" maybe someone sings "It's fun to stay at the y-m-c-a" etc.
- there are online sites that allow you to make your own bingo cards, so you could make up cards where all the bingo squares are music/concert related ones like 'guitar', 'microphone', 'sound check', etc.

I think rockstar makeovers would be fun, with spray-in hair color and neon colored finger nails. Do you have Wii? I've heard great things about the game "So you think you can dance". Any of the singing or dancing games or mats would probably be great for that age. I'd talk with your daughter about the ideas you've been given and see what she'd like to do at her party. Have fun!

Edit: Sorry, I had the wrong name for the wii game- there's Dance Dance revolution or Just Dance. And I just found one called Boogie Super Star that has singing and dancing, and costs less than the other games.

You could have a Rockstar party by buying a bunch of inflatable guitars and microphones. If you have a Wii or Playstation they have games you can buy that they can sing too. We have the disney one for the wii and even the 12 year olds love to come over and play it. You could also play freeze dance. Have then dance and when the music stop they have to freeze. Buy tattoos and hair color and the girls will have a blast with them. You can also get them a big package of rubber bands and the girls can fix each other hair like rock stars.

They could play American Idol Auditions. Pick 3-4 of the girls to be the judges and I am sure that all the contestants know enough words to a song to "Try Out". The kids will have a blast being ridiculed by "Simon" or just being "Simon".
They could do a dress up version of a "Rock Star" fashion show. Have all types of clothes accessories to choose from like, hats, scarfs, boas, flashy necklaces etc. Then walk the run way.
They could also do Wacky Make up Make overs, just give them some old make up and let their imaginations go wild.
Just remember what ever you decide to do make sure to have camera handy, the pictures will be priceless.

My daughter got a gift from one of her friends that is a plug-n-play karaoke. It comes with DVDs and a microphone. Don't know what it's called but it has an American Idol theme with actual past contestants singing on the DVD

For my daughter's bday sleepover (she is 11) I bought generic Barbie dolls for $1 each at a store called Dollar General. Not sure if you have that chain where you live, but look for cheap Barbies at a drug store or dollar store and buy one for each girl. I also bought nail polish at the same store for $1 each-- I bought colors like black and white and blue.... I gave each girl a doll and laid out the polish as well as colored Sharpie markers and had them decorate their dolls. Mind you my daughter and her friends are older than yours, but it was a blast!! My daughter colored hers all red with the marker and then used the black polish to draw lines that looked like spider webs so it was a SpiderMan Barbie! Since they are so cheap, the heads and arms and legs kept falling off, so I took out the glue gun and one girl made hers into a wacky sculpture.

Get rolls of foil (and/or clear plastic wrap). Break them into teams (or pairs)and have each team create a rock star outfit on one of the girls on the team made completely out of foil, and then do a fashion show. You can judge it and have a prize for the winning team if you want

Break into teams. Have a box of objects (different objects for each team) and give them about 15 minutes to go in another room and come up with a skit to perform. They have to use every object in the box and the theme has to have to do with being a rock star in some way. You can also give them a silly word they have to somehow use in the skit, like "spagetti". Don't forget the video camera!!

Remember not to over plan. The girls will just enjoy eachother's company and come up with stuff to do on their own. When my kids have friends over, they always play hide and seek with stuffed animals (someone hides them and everyone else has to find them). I remember sleepovers as a kid and none of the moms used to plan anything for us other than maybe a movie and popcorn and they'd leave us alone to have fun

JoAnn Fabrics or JoAnn Etc. in some areas carry foam craft kits with the rockstar theme. They can make their own life-sized foam electric guitar and decorate them they way they'd like.

How about something like a wireless mic that workds with any stereo/radio, or one of those pre-programmed mic versions or a setup that can be used on a pc? I've seen the ones that plug into a radio/stereo at target for about 20 - 30 dollars.

Another idea is getting one of those dance mats that light up with music. There's a link below for an American Idol version that combines karaoki with dancing? I've this one at K-Mart in the games and toys section.

have a "talent" show with little prizes or do the color spray hair thing like rockstars of the 80's did. Have them pick songs and make their own CDs with the computer. if you have a game system that has guitar hero or the singing game use it.

I agree with renting a machine, or if you have any friends with one, borrowing? My 3 year old has this camera toy that you put a CD in or whatever, and it plays the song and shows you on the tv singing and dancing to it. I'm not sure how much it was b/c my mom bought it.

Maybe you can get some temporary hair colors and they could have "rock star" hair, like pink and purple or whatever. I know they have the comb in kinds you can wash out right away at Hot Topic.

Maybe you can rent a machine instead of buying one? Or if you have any video gaming systems - playstation - xbox etc....maybe there is a kareoke game/cartridge that you can buy or rent?

What about facials, pedicures, manicures, makeovers etc? TWISTER! What about changing out some light bulbs with black lights or other crazy colors? Good luck, have fun!

For the ages you are talking about, I'm thinking if you don't have a game station, you might want to borrow one from somebody. The PS3, Wii......they all have some pretty awesome games for that theme. It's been mentioned -So You Think You Can Dance, among others. My dd had a sleepover at a friend's house and they did that. She talked about it for weeks..
Make sure you have stuff for them to "trick" themselves out. Nail polish, hats boas, lots of sparkles, etc. I have gone to the local consignment/Once Upon A Child/Goodwill and found super cheap accessories!
* We have done several sleep-overs and found that having plenty of free time is important or, at least, desired. I would plan all these crafts, games, etc. and the girls pretty much just wanted to go play by themselves. I would have ideas and one or two activities, but don't worry about planning a whole lot of stuff. Also, unless by some freak of nature, all the girls get along perfectly, there will be some bickering/fighting, someone getting left out, someone being caddy. I tell the girls upfront that they need to get along (yeah, that doesn't work, but I say it anyway). Then, if there's "drama" I send my husband in to deal with it. Seriously, I can't take the drama. My hubby just goes in and tell them what's what. LOL! Oh yeah...stock up on wine for yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just kidding- well, not really. Ok, have fun and good luck!!

If you have cable I have rented Karaoke on cable for a month during the Christmas time as it was a tradition for us. We would play American Idol and select songs prior to the gathering.

Do you have a wii or other gaming system? My daughter thew out this as an idea for her party as well, so we had thought of playing Sing It or Lego Rock Band, or Band Hero. All are games for the Wii, but I would assume they are available for other systems as well. We also talked about having a neighbor girl (who is 13) come over and fix their hair in wild do's, spraying their hair colors, and just getting into their Rock Star Mode prior to singing or playing on the wii. Another idea is to watch a Rock Star movie like High School Musical, or any other movie that kind of fits the theme. You may even search for some older movies (like ones when WE were kids) that they may have never seen that fits the bill. Freaky Friday was re-made and the remake had a rock star thing to it. You can have them come up with their rock star names, practices signing their autographs (give each girl an autograph book and have them sign their rock star names in them) or let them create a concert t-shirt...get fabric paints or just sharpies, cheap white t-shirts (craft stores like JoAnns and Hobby Lobby have them, as does the $1.00 store) and let them create their own rock star concert shirt. Maybe print pictures of concert t-shirts to hang around as decoration/inspiration and/or have real concert t-shirts to show. That's all I've got for now!
