I would like to start reading a Christian daily devotional every morning when I get back from the gym. I'd like something brief that really "speaks" to a woman like me. (Hope that makes sense!) I'm trying to take baby steps to get my spiritual life back in order. Can you recommend a good one? TIA!!!

I LOVE the Kenneth Copeland Faith to Faith. My husband was injured in the military, 4 years of ups and downs fighting for his life, I can honestly say the scriptures and insight in that book sustained both of us and our children. Not to mention the 2 1/2 years of NO income after he lost his job and before his disability pay started. We did a daily family devotional from that book. Even when my husband was in the hospital my teenagers and I had our devotional together and he did his as an inpatient. You can access it online for free at www.kcm.org.

Hi Jessica,
I think its awesome that you're wanting to set aside a time to read and contemplate God's Word. Personally, I'm not usually too big on focusing "women issues". I'd like to believe all the issues in the Bible are for women! The Institute of Creation Research (they are actually based in Dallas) has a free booklet of daily devotions and they can also email it to you everyday. They are not focused solely on creation although some are. Go to www.icr.org...in the front page, scroll down and you'll see "Free Publications" and that is where you sign up. If you have any questions/thoughts, email me back.

Our Daily Bread is a good one. You can visit the website or get the free books delivered to you. There is always a link to Biblegateway so you can read the Scripture in its entirety.

One I have always loved is "31 Days of Praise," by Ruth and Warren Myers. It is thought-provoking and positive. I don't have it in front of me, but I think it's about a page of devotional, a scripture, and a prayer. Ruth Myers has also written other similar devotions, including "The Satisfied Heart." All are very good. ("31 Days of Prayer is another one)

I also like "31 Days of Wisdom and Praise," which is a daily reading of a collection of Psalms and a chapter of Proverbs per day. By the end of the month, you will have read through all of the Psalms and the entire book of Proverbs. As you read it each month, verses will start sinking into your memory and just become a natural part of your thoughts, and God will bring the words to mind in all kinds of situations. It is published by Zondervan, but I don't know if it's still in publication - I have mine for 20 years. You can Google it to find it.

A book I've loved for women is "A Heart Like His - The Shaping of Character in the Choices of Life," by Rebecca Manley Pippert. It's a look at King David's life, through a woman's eyes. It is also older...in fact, I'm beginning to realize I've had most of the ones I'll recommend to you for a LONG time, so some may be out of print, but you can Google titles and probably find them somewhere.

"A Woman After God's Own Heart," by Elizabeth George - she has written others that are also good.

"Becoming a Woman of Excellence," by Cynthia Heald - also has written more.

"8 Choices That Will Change a Woman's Life," by Jill Briscoe.

"Help, Lord, My Whole Life Hurts," by Carole Mayhall.

"Let Me Be a Woman," by Elisabeth Elliot (anything by her is very good and very deep).

"The Power of a Praying Woman," by Stormie Omartian, and others in that series.

"The Christian's Secret of a Happy Life," by Hannah Whitall Smith.

"Hinds Feet On High Places," by Hannah Hurnand.

http://www.reviveourhearts.com/ - great women's radio program, and also has books and other resources.

Other thoughts are to call larger churches that have women's ministries and get recommendations from them, or go to several different Christian bookstores and ask and look. Also Google "women's devotionals" and see what comes up.

Good luck finding a few good ones to start with! I'm in the same place, and your question made me get excited about some of the books I already have!

I just started reading Stormie Omartian’s book, The Prayer That Changes Everything: The Hidden Power of Praising God. This may be valuable for you as well.

Also, you can find Bible reading plans at http://www.biblegateway.com/

Praying Psalm 86:11-12 for you.
