Cars 2....3D or Not?

My son is 4 and we are going to see Cars 2 this weekend. I haven't seen any 3D movies since they've changed the format. The last 3D movie I saw had the red and blue lenses! My son does well in movie theaters, but I'm not sure how he would do with a 3D movie. He doesn't get scared by things jumping out at him, so I'm thinking he'll be ok. How did your kids do with a 3D movie? Did they keep their glasses on? Thanks for your help!

So What Happened?

We had passes for the movie and went to the first showing, so I only had to pay $3 each to see the 3D version. I talked to my son about it and he said he would wear his glasses, so we tried it out. I wasn't that impressed with the 3D. There were some good sections where the 3D was cool, but for a cartoon, I didn't think the 3D was that great. My son did wear the glasses the whole time, so that was good. Thanks for your responses!

I find 3-D irritating.
He probably will not leave the glasses on the whole time. At that age.

To me there really is not much of a difference between 3-D and normal.

My son is 4, he will not keep those things on very long even if just playing with it at home.
It is just novelty.
He doesn't care about it being "3-D" or not.

Personally, 3-D is over-rated.

You may want to read online reviews of the movie and watch before you take your kiddo or waste the money ... it's not so good.

"Your kids won’t mind any of these problems, but parents may be concerned by some of the messages the film has for them. Mater is dumber than ever, and his behavior throughout the film resembles that of a kid with ADD who’s just had too much sugar. That wouldn’t be a problem if the Cars 2 didn’t spend so much time going out of its way to laud that behavior. It’s easy to imagine parents going home after the film to discover their kid running around the house breaking things while shouting “I’m a tow truck!” Mater has morphed from being a loyal friend, into a self-centered, out of control buffoon. It’s fun, but as a role model for children, I can’t really think of anything worse." -- Josh Tyler Cinemablend.com

We go to this site for EVERY movie we are considering watching and they also have a feature to help you decide 3D or not ... hope this helps!

We went to the aquarium with glasses for a 3D underwater film and my then 2 year old was reaching her hand out towards the fish that were coming "out of" the screen towards us. I will never forget that. She is 11 now, so the technology must have improved. She did sit on my lap since she was so little. He will probably love it.

Definately NOT 3d, my kids HATE wearing the glasses! I get a headache for the 1st half hour until my eyes adjust as well, not worth the extra money IMHO.

I hate 3-D. I think it's cheesy, not well done and the glasses make my head hurt. I know, I'm whining. I never take the kids to 3-D and they still enjoy all the movies we go see. If they want to see 3-D they know they have to ask grandpa or somebody else. Plus, they think the glasses are uncomfortable too.

The best part about Cars2 is the Toy Story short at the beginning- it's all down hill from there.

I know some adults/kids who get headaches at 3D movies. We won't pay the extra money for 3D with the kids because I don't want to risk having to leave midway through the movie.

I'm taking my three boys on Tuesday. I discussed this very question with my husband, and he very sensibly said to go with 2d. They have enough trouble with headphones in the car, let alone struggling with glasses for an entire movie. There will be plenty of3d movies to watch when the're a little older.

Saw the regular (cheaper) version today. There is SO MUCH action when we go back tomorrow we're sitting in the back row. I couldn't take it all in so I can just IMAGINE a four year old watching it. My son is four and I know he wouldn't wear the glasses and I don't like wearing them myself.

We took our 3 year old to Toy Story 3 in 3-D. He did not wear his glasses at all and the parts that were supposed to be in 3-D were blurry to him.
