Born with Bump in Lower Gum
Has anyone ever seen a bump on a newborns lower gum, middle front? doctors and nurses say she sucked her thumb in the womb, she wakes up screaming while sleeping soundly, wonder if that bump is paining her? She was born June 6th. Mother is breastfeeding.

B.,
My son was born with a similar bumb, because he was a premie they had to tested. A few days later it got bigger, within a week he had his first tooth.
She should be crying a lot. Don't worry about it too much, like anything else keep an eye on it.

Hi B., Nice to see more grandmas here...is your new granddaughter sucking her thumb now? If she is she probably was before she was born. My granddaughter did that, but didn't have a bump.
Congradulations on the new grandbaby....my youngest grandson will be 10 on Friday.

My baby has a small bump on her lower gum near the front. It looks like a little pimple. The pediatrician told me that it was just skin cells sloughing off and that many babies are born with it. If it just looks like a pimple, I wouldn't be concerned. If it's bigger - maybe it's something different.
Does the mother swaddle the baby? She might just wake up with a startle reflex.

My son was also born with a bump on the middle of his lower gum. It looked like there was a round pearl underneath the skin. The doctor said it wasn't anything to worry about but I still wondered about it. I nursed him as usual and at about 3 months, his first tooth appeared at the same spot where the bump was. Since your grand daughter is only 4 days old, I think crying in the middle of the night is fairly normal behavior for newborns.

Some babies already have a tooth ready to erupt when they are born. Bet you that bump is her first tooth!

Is the bump white? My son had 3 bumps on his gums that were tiny like a pin prick. all 3 were white. the doc kept calling them some kind of cyst- I can't remember the term- but they were harmless. They wen't away around month 5. i think it was from sucking so much; they didn't seem to cause him any pain.
Congratulations on the new baby Grandma!

some new babies are born with what are called neonatal teeth. this is when the teeth come in the first couple months of life. if the bump on the gums gets worse have her mama take her to the dr and see what they say again. also a great thing that can help relieve the pain is to use gentle naturals teething drops (they work way better then the teething tablets). try those.
