Bichon Frieze Knee Problem
Does anybody know if Glucosimine would possibly help my my dog with a luxated patella problem in stage I ? Maybe someone has tried other suppliments and they helped ?

Glucosomine and Chondrointin will help lubricate the joints, but will not ultimatley fix the knee problem. It is a hereditary problem than many little dogs have. Most little dogs we know come from backyard breeders or puppy stores which ALL get their puppies from puppy mills. These money hungry breeders only care about selling you a cute face for profit and do not health test their dogs before breeding, nor do they offer a health guarantee. It is unfortunate to have to pay for a surgery for your dog, or for your precious little baby to live in pain, but that is the price we pay for not buying from a reputable breeder. My point to all of this is, I hope someone will read it and think about buying from a good breeder who will most likely lose money to produce a healthy, wonderful litter. I would go to the veterinary specialists in your area and arrange for the surgery as soon as possible to eliminate pain and a worsening condition. CARE credit is available for people who have limited funds. Veterinary medicine is SO cheap compared with human medicine and it's virtually the same.

Unfortunately I am not too sure of the situation with your dog, but I have recently been told that my 4 year old cocker spaniel has a bulging disk in his back. My vet said that I could "try” Glucosimine. He told me that much like us using it for joint issues the studies have not shown that it is 100% effective or ineffective either. I have to say we do not know how he got this injury to begin with, but he has been taking 2 tablets of the Glucosimine per day (for the last 20 days and we have 10 left then he goes down to 1 tablet per day for life), and so far so good. The vet tech told me it will not hurt him and it could maybe help him in the future since cockers are prone to hip dysphasia (sp??). I'm sorry I could not answer your specific question, but I don’t think it will hurt anything to start it. I so Hope things work out for you and your pet they are our other children and I know how much worrying can go into them.

I give my dogs MonaVie. They don't have any health problems-just love it, but I've had friends give it to their animals with issues and have seen great results. It has glucosamine in it plus it's high in antioxidents. There is an advertiser here on Mamasource you can contact, or you can email/call me if you want to know more.

Hello!
One of my dogs had patellar luxation, but stage 4. So she had to have surgery so it didnt rupture. I think that glucosamine is more preventative for arthritis. Have they said that your dog is at risk for arthritis? If so, then I would imagine it would help.
Sorry I am not much help.
