Best Diapers for Baby Boy

I have a healthy baby boy (9 months old) who wets my bed almost any night he sleeps with me.(Being the nights that I am too lazy to carry him to his own room.) Because if he nurses any at night he has a lot to soak his diaper with :( I was using cheaper brand diapers, but now I bought some Huggies for at night (paying 23 cent per diaper) I thought it was working, but no! He has soaked my bed the last few nights again. And when I get up to change him, the diaper don't feel like it is very wet.. He can only sleep soundly on his tummy and that makes it soak worse in the front..These Huggies don't hold too much in front, I guess.. Does anyone have a suggestion on a better diaper, I guess I will have to pay whatever to find the right diaper for him. Thanks for ANY help, I am at my wits end with washing my mattress pad and sheets every day :(

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

I don't know where to start. I have gotten so many awesome answers and have been helped by all my friends on here!
I guess i started with the cheapest remedy for the time being.....but it has worked wonders.
I just bought a big size diaper for at night and actually have changed for during the day also. Luvs diapers work better than Huggies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am really looking in to the cloth diaper thing to. THANKS TO ALL! I will save all my answers for back ups!

Try cloth. Many perks to cloth but for one, overall, are much less expensive than disposables. There are hundreds on the market to choose from (All In Ones, diapers with covers etc). At night, I double up. I use one Hemp diaper becuase they hold a ton of liquid and a standard cotton diaper over top of it(I think it is softer to his skin). On the rare occassion that my son is in a disposable at night, he leaks almost every time. We don't have the same problem when I use the hemp/cotton combo. Good luck.

I cloth diaper and wool diaper covers are great. I use wool 'longies/pants' as pj's. Try googleing wool diaper covers and you will see the benefits. You could use these wool pants over his diaper.

My daughter uses the Target brand diapers, they are resonably priced and work well for her 13 month baby boy.

I agree with Michelle! I switched to cloth when my daughter was 4 months old and she is still using the same diapers-and she is now almost 19 months old! Talk about savings! I would suggest a one-size pocket diaper that you stuff with the liner it comes with and 2 or 3 hemp liners. Hemp liners are very thin but very absorbent. If you don't want to make the full switch to cloth you could buy 3 one size diapers and wash every other evening or two. Since I've switched to cloth I've had maybe 3 or 4 nighttime leaks and it's usually because I didn't put the diaper on right. Also, use one of the pads designed for laying across the crib underneath you both to help keep your bed dry even if he has a leak. If you are interested in trying cloth send me a pm and I can give you some great sites and any info you might need to get started since there is a learning curve. :)

HI H.,
First of all, you are not lazy- you are TIRED- give yourself credit!!!!
Second- I always found that huggies leaked with my baby. I used the Pampers Swaddlers, and then Pampers Cruisers when he got to that stage. He is still in Size 4 cruisers. He slept/nursed with us until about 5 months. And I nursed him in the night for quite a while (usually about 2 am).
I also tried Makers Mark (Sam's club) diapers, and they gave him diaper rash. So I figure it is better to spend the money and know what I am getting than to end up with wetness, rash, etc and a bunch of diapers I don't want to use.
Congrats on your lil guy!

Huggies Overnights and Pampers Extra absorbancy. They are a little pricier than the regular ones but worth their cost. Good luck :)

Tis may sound kind of silly, but have you made sure his little hose is pointing down when you put the diaper on? I had the same problem with my son when he was a new born. He slept on his sstomach and would always be soaked within two hours of a new diaper, but the diaper was almost dry. I started making sure his hose was pointed down when I changed him, and it solved the problem. I also used inexpensive diapers (walmart brand) and hated the idea of paying so much more for diapers.

H.,
I had the same problem with my son when he was about the same age as your son. Somebody suggested feeding him about an hour or so earlier before bedtime & it worked for me. However, my son was not getting up to eat in the middle of the night. It is frustrating, I know.
I tried all different diapers, including the overnights to no avail.
Somebody suggested cloth diapers to me. I never tried them b/c not letting him drink anything an hour before bed worked. But I have friends who use cloth diapers & say they almost never leak.

Definitely try the Diaper Doublers! I get them at Publix in the diaper section and they are about 3.00 for 30.

My little guy has ALWAYS peed through with Huggies...since he was born. They just don't work for us at all. We used Pampers for his first year and then he developed a diaper rash that would not go away until we switched to Luvs (made by the same company as Pampers, but obviously there is some difference since he doesn't reaction to Luvs.) We still had times, during growth spurts and such, that he would pee through at night, usually having urine come through around the waist line. I got the diaper doublers and after a couple nights of experimenting how I put the doubler in the diaper, we've never had any further problem. They basically look like feminine pads and you can position it more towards the front or back depending on your child's need.

I use them also on long car rides. I think the way my son is built, the position the car seat keeps him in and the general leg gap with the diapers makes him have trouble with peeing through his clothes when in the car. The diaper doublers fix that problem too.

Hi H.,

I have experienced the same thing before. I have tried off brands and Huggies also and I feel like Pampers work the best for us. And...lol...if my son's little man part is not tucked downward I feel like the chance of a leak is a lot greater! :)
