I Need Some Help - Eatonton, GA

my daughter has been sleeping through the night for a few months now, but only recently has she been wetting through her diapers. we had used only pampers until now, but we have tried huggies and white cloud to help with this problem- no such luck!! it only happens at night, so i bought some huggies pullups for nighttime(2T is the smallest size) and then wrapped a "normal" diaper around that to keep it in place. well...it has worked so far but can anyone suggest an alternative solution to our problem?

What can I do next?

We had the same problem, but a little later. Huggies makes a diaper for nighttime called "Overnights." they are actual diapers and they are WONDERFUL!!! The only problem is the smallest size they come in is 3 (16-28 lbs), although that is a LOT better than 2T!!! We have been using them for months, and we haven't had a leak since. I highly recommend them!

Have you tried Luv's? This is the only brand that my babies didn't soak through. I hope that helps.

I found that when I went up a size (at night only) it helped. I have used Huggies with my son for awhile. The diapers seem to leak at night when he is close to the weight limit. I also found some nighttime diapers, but I think they start with a size 4. I have seen some liners that can be placed inside the diaper to help absorb. How about old-fashioned rubber pants? I have seen them at Target.

IHTH. I know it is frustrating.

My son had that problem also. I used Kroger brand or the Huggies (I think it is Huggies that makes Overnights) Overnights in the small size. They where a little big on top meaning they went up to the middle of his tummy. They did hold the wetness in though so I did not mind them for a nighttime diaper. Hope this helps.

Hi H.,
I was having that problem at one time. The solution to our problem was to make sure we changed her before bed. Even if she was already asleep, I would still change her. If for some reason I got up during the night, I would check to see if she needed to be changed. We started out with pampers, but as she got older we changed to huggies. We've been using huggies since she was 6 months. Hey who knows your baby better than you do? I also suggest trial and error. Since she is so young, I do not suggest depriving her of a bottle before bed. I will leave that for you to decide. I hope this helps.

My little girl wets through her diaper almost every night if we leave it on so when I go to bed I carefully (so I don't wake her) change her diaper so she has a new one and makes it through the whole time I'm sleeping. It works for us.
The cloth diapers have things called doublers for heavy wetters - you could try using those and then tossing them in the wash or hand washing them the next morning. I have seen those in the store for standard diapers too but have not tried them

Usually when that happens they need the larger size diaper. Changing to the next size up worked for me. Hope this helps.

I have seen diaper helpers at Publix and Babies R Us. They look basically like feminine hygiene pads that go in the diapers to help absorb more. They may help and should cost less than the pull-ups. Is your daughter in the largest diaper size? I only say this because my 4 month old can wear size 2 diapers, but at night we have to put on size 3 diapers or she will wet through every time. I am using Luvs diapers right now, but had the same problem with Pampers & Huggies. Try a larger size diaper at night by itself first to see if that works and make sure you change her diaper as close to laying her down for the night as you can.

We used the next size up for nights only with my daughter. For example she normally wore a 4 then at night we would put her in a 5 so she wouldn't wet through. That still works!

Hope it helps

My baby did this also so I tried huggies and put him ina a size bigger and it works. You may have also tried this but I also always make sure that he has a fresh diaper before I lay him down instead of changing his diaper when I put him into his night clothes (which is about and hour before his bed time)I change it again right before I lay him down.

I think every mom has that problem at one point or another. Is she filling the diaper or is it coming out of the side? If it is coming out of the sides my suggestion if you haven't already tried it is try a size smaller diaper for nighttime huggies always worked best for me. Or if she is soaking through the diaper you need to look at how long your child is sleeping and how much she drank before going to sleep...sometimes its just gonna happen. The only other thing I can think of is waking up halfway through her night and changing her. Sorry if I couldnt be more help.

Hi H.,

Simple solution to your problem as we had the same one! Just buy the Huggies OVERNITES.. NOT the pull up diapers, but the OVERNITE Diapers. They are in a purplish package. Good luck.

The same thing happened with my son. I too used Pampers and realized that he just needed the next size diaper. My son is tall for his age so most diapers cut him to short. So, he has always worn a size bigger in diapers than he actually is. For example, he is 25 months old, 30lbs and wears a size 6. Try going up a size.

Good luck.

i had this problem with my fourth. We ended up switching to cloth because it was the only other option. As a result we ended up loving it! There is some cool stuff on the market these days- not the rags and pins of the past! If you want more info let me know.

In the meantime all I can suggest is to change her right before you go to bed. You can get some cheap pull up diaper covers from walmart (i think gerber makes them) and put those over so that if she does leak atleast she is wearing a diaper cover. Also if you pj her in fleece bottoms that too will perform as a diaper cover. However unless you make her disposable diapers more absorbant you are still looking at a wet mess but atleast it would give you another line of defense!

Look into to cloth though! Bum Genius makes some cool stuff- even my husband likes! He calls them reusables because they are nothing like one would think a "cloth" diaper should be. Checkout www.cottonbabies.com and www.diaperswappers.com (I am Wrap Happy on that forum)

Our daughter did that for awhile. Eventually it stopped. We just had to change the sheets and her night time clothes a lot. The phase honestly didn't last too long. We use Pampers, too. We just moved up to size 5 this week (for our 10 month old).

I have always used Huggies Supreme at night. My son hasn't had a problem and he has woken up with a FULL diaper! Do NOT get the comfort fit - I accidently bought those and he woke up just soaked. I hope this works for you!

There is a product called Diaper Doublers that worked for us. It's kind of like a pad that you put in the diaper when you change your baby. That's what we used with our twins. You can get them at Publix - I'm not sure abut any other places. Hope this helps.

Hey H.! We had the same problem. What i would do before i went to bed i would change her one last time, Normally around 10pm and we get up at 515am to feed and to go to work. This has really helped us. There are also diaper inserts you can buy, gerber makes them. it might help absorb more.

I had that problem with my second child and honestly the only thing that helped was to change him right before I went to bed. It never really woke him up and when I did he didn't wet the bed. Sorry I can't be of more help but try changing her before your bedtime and see if it helps.I also agree with the other moms about going up a size I had to do that too. All my kids wear/wore huggies and I swear by the supreme ones. They move better and are more flexable than the other diapers. And they're not too expensive which is good for us cuz we're on a tight budget. Good luck:)

I used to use Diaper Doubles with my son because he would wake up wet every day. I buy them in the grocery store and they sort of look like a big maxi-pad. You put it inside the diaper and it's added absorbency. Worked great. I put it more in the front for my son but for a girl I would think you'd put it more in the back.

Hey I am sure that you have heard this already but I work at a child care center and all the parents I talked too said that the pampers leaked. I used Luvs with my children because I could not find a diper myself that didn't leak (until I tried Luvs) Also a lot of parents at the daycare just went up a diper size that almost always did the trick. Good luck!

in my experiance leaky diaper means you need to move up a size in diapers. Huggies are wider , Pampers are longer and luvs is in between. so if she longer in the top she needs pampers and if she wider she needs the huggies. we've been useing luvs for a while now and they work great for my son. With my daughter we switched back and forth between huggies and pampers, because she would grow wide then tall so to get the right fit we would go say she was in a size 2 huggies wed go to a size 2 pamper then a size 3 huggie, size 3 pamper , etc does that make since?

Have you tried Publix Diaper Doublers? They are like giant maxi pads that fit into the diapers. My son uses them and never any leaks.

Hi! Both of my kids did the same thing. At Publix, they sold something called Diaper Doublers that worked great inside an overnight diaper. Here's a picture, at the bottom of this page:
