Any Experience W/prolapsed Bladder, Cystocele and Rectocele?

I have a prolapsed bladder, cystocele, and rectocele after having my second child 5 months ago. My OBG says I'll eventually need surgery once I'm using pads every day or once I can't hold my urine. My bigger issue right now is feeling my bladder coming out of me. It drives me nuts and is causing me to feel depressed. I do kegels all the time and they do not help. I've read a lot of forums online where people have had horrible experiences after having surgery to repair these problems. My OBG doesn't have much experience w/the surgery. Has anyone had successful surgery for these problems and any recommendations for surgeons in the Houston area?

What can I do next?

WOW! I cannot belive I'm reading this! I just had surgery for this 2 weeks ago! Here's my story... it's gross, but I'm sure if you are having this problem you know what I mean...
I had my second baby almost a year ago. During pregnancy, I felt weird down there, but blew it off thinking it is a perk of pregnancy. Well, about 6 mo. after giving birth, I peed and felt a bulge bigger than usual when I wipped. I had felt it before, but was too embarrassed to ask my hubby to come look at my va-j-j. Well, I had to. And he pushed it back in and said call the dr. I went in the next day and she said I have a bladder and rectal prolapse. So gave me some cream to try to tighten it up and told me to come back in a mo. I did and I didn't even have to bare down to get it to push out. So, she referred me to a urologist- Dr. Anholt @ Memorial city Memorial Hermann hospital. Well, he looked at me and said no doubt about it, I needed surgery. There are 2 things you can do- tacking it up or putting a sling in. Tacking could fall and you would have to do it again in 5 yrs. or so. The sling is permanant. I opted for the sling. I feel great! I feel back to normal. I can now play again with my kids. I feel like I have my life back and my kids have their mommy back! I had gotten so bad and depressed that all I had energy and pain level for was to go to work. I would come home and lay in bed and watch TV without really "watching" tv. Dr. Anholt is the bomb! He didn't tell me this, but I learned that Dr.s come from all over the world so that he can teach them how to do this surgery. He had done well over 600 of these and is considered the best. The day I had my surgery I was so drugged, but the next day I was up walking and felt fine. Pooping was an experience though- but that got better in like 3 days. It sounds like I had exactly what you have. Dr. Anholt said that sex for the first year may feel "rougher" to my husband. Bascially because he sewed a mess piece in between my Va-j-j and my organs. Eventually my tissue will grow through it and around it causing it to become part of me, but it takes time. But, with the pain I was having sex HURT. Actually, I had the surgery 1/10/08. I just can't run, jump or have sex for about another month. Yesterday I walked a mile and played catch with my oldest and I haven't been able to do that for a LONG time. I hope this helps! Good luck and let me know what's going on with you.

and I, too, have a prolapsed bladder, cystocele and rectocele. I went to, supposedly, a urologist top in his field that was a gyn also. He operated on my bladder, etc and when it was all over, I had to have a nephrostomy tube put in my kidney and wear a leg bag. It was horrible. Then, I had to have a stent put in where I had bladder spasms constantly. When that was all taken out (and by the way, my surgeon said it all happened because my ureter was sutured) my bladder prolapsed again and the whole horrible surgery was a FAILURE. Did the surgeon take responsibility? NO. He said, "I left it like that so you won't have pain during intercourse". With by bladder hanging out like it does, how can anyone have intercourse??
The only, and only good thing that it created, is that my ureters are kinked, thereby not allowing me to be incontinent, something that I was becoming before all this started.
So, A. if you want to have this surgery, just make sure that your surgeon takes responsibility for any mistakes he makes AND
that this surgery be done by both a gyn and a urologist. This of course is my opinion, an opinion who's been there, and done that!!

I had a prolapsed bladder after my third child. I felt like all my body parts were going to fall out too. It took a while for it to feel better, it hurt sometimes when I sat down. Then I had a hysterectomy. It was done by laser. I didn't have to have anything else done. The surgery was the best thing since buttered bread! I highly recommend Dr.Bryon Holt @ Memorial City. He is VERY experienced.

A.- I had the bladder issue cause by the birth of my 7 pound twins. They were born 8 years ago and each year my bladder got worse and worse. I actually had to have a hysterectomy due to some other issues which were also causing my bladder to be pushed down. I had a huge endometrial cyst pushing down on my bladder....who knows how long it had been there. Anyways- I didn't need to have the bladder surgery because the reconstructive surgery (tummy tuck) and removal of the cyst really helped me out. But I probably will in the future. My doctor for my bladder was wonderful. My best friend used her also and had the tape method of fixing her bladder. The doctor is in the woodlands and very good. If you need any further info please contact me.

I had a prolapsed bladder with both pregnancies. It was pretty severely prolapsed. Give your bladder more time. My bladder still is not perfect, but I have not relented to my doctors wishes and had the surgery. The surgery correction is not permanent, and should not be done until you have finished having children. You are still carrying children all day, and that does not help. Continue exercising, and include more core exercises. I am getting ready to run a marathon in two weeks. I would hold off on any surgery. K.

Hello A.,
I'm a mom of four kids and I had the same problem as you after the fourth. I'm a native Houstonian but live in France. Here, after childbirth, it's commun practice to see a physical therapist to help strengthen your muscles. Have you looked in to this type of therapy? It worked wonders for me and NO surgery!!!! Some midwives are also specialized in this area of therapy in fact thats where I saught help.
Hope this helps!

I recommend:
User Rating: 5 out of 5 stars (1 rating)
Lin, Selina MD - Ob-Gyn Affiliates
###-###-####
1331 Grand Pky, Katy, TX 77494

She is an incredible Dr as well as a wonderfully caring individual. Dr Lin has been my Dr for over 10 years. Though I personally did not experience your problems, she performed 2 surguries on me and I have never trusted a Dr like I have her. My younger sister did experience what you are going through and Dr Lin performed her surgery. It was amazing how fast her recovery was after the surgery. She had been completely miserable. I hope going to Katy Tx isn't too far for you travel.
Best of luck to you.

I had my bladder tied up (suspended) when I went in for some female surgery. I, too, felt like it was pressing to fall out or something. Anyway, the surgery did help a great deal at the time which was years ago (I was about 30 or so). My gynecologist did the job. I'm sure you need someone like that, who is a good surgeon and knows his stuff, or a urologist who is also a surgeon. I have one in Houston named Lewiton. He's expensive but he's also the best. My doctor that did the surgery died 15 years ago. My bladder is still not perfect--I can't do jumping jacks or jog. But my newest doctor, an internal specialist, said it's not enough to worry about and to do nothing. Good luck.

Hi A.,

First of all, don't fret, this is a fixable problem. I have had the sensation you speak of and it is not plesant, to say the least. What I can tell you is that the sensation might go away without surgical means, mine did, but it took almost a year - only to return with each monthly cycle. My sister has dealt with bladder problems since her children were born, and they are in their mid 20's now. She has been told time and again that there was nothing that could be done for her. She has been told differently now and is in the process of investigating this new procedure. I can check with her about this if you desire to know this information.

My husband has been labled as stage four cancer. His cancer is renal cell carcinoma and we have an excellant urologist (he is also a pediatric urologist - I like this fact, means the man is precise and pays attention to the smaller details). I don't know what specialist you would require, but this man is the best if you need an urologist. His name is Irvin Saron and is from Johannesburg, Africa (sorry about the spelling). He works out of Cy-Fair Hospital and the new doctors hospital - North Cypress. He is wonderful and I can't say enough about him.

Hope all goes well with you. Speaking as an older mom (just found out this Thursday, my little girl was accepted to medical school - WOOHOO!!), don't put off you pain, it will weaken you and you need all the strength you can get with two boys. God bless you and keep those you hold in your heart happy and healthy.

L.
