Hi, I had my 2nd son in september it was a C-section. He's eating soft foods already, I'm only breastfeeding at night. I got my fist in november, then in march and just recently in May. Since then i havent had my perion its been more than 5 weeks. is it normal to have periods on and off. Could it be because of my new diet?

What can I do next?

I did experience irregular cycles while breastfeeding. Even while breastfeeding exclusively, I still ovulated, too! If you really want to understand what's happening with your body, I would start charting your temperatures in the morning. I have been using fertilityfriend.com since I began trying for my first pregnancy in 2004, and I still use it, one miscarriage and 4 children later. It's been different with each one; I don't think you're necessarily pregnant, though it's definitely a possibility. I'm not sure if your period could be affected by your diet.

I actually got pregnant with my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th while still breastfeeding the one before, and I remember having my first period at different times with each, and some anovulatory cycles, both shorter and longer than usual. My cycle never got a chance to get "regular" again after my first 2 since they were 6 months and 5 months when the next one was conceived. With them (even though I was ONLY breastfeeding, and doing it on demand), I got my first periods at 8 weeks, and 6 weeks, which were anovulatory cycles. My first ovulations after that were at 4 months and 2 months, and then I got pregnant on the next ovulation after each, though there were other cycles in between. After my 3rd, I didn't get a period until he was almost 8 months, and then BAM, they were regular. I got pregnant when he was 11 months.

My cycles still are not regular and my son is almost 2, breastfed for 13 months. If you're worried, track them and mention it at your next ob/gyn visit. I did not have a period at all until he was almost 1 and he was my second as well. I should add that I took a home pregnancy test almost every month just so I wouldn't be shocked and surprised later on, even though I was taking the mini-pill. Whenever I'd go six weeks without a period I'd became worried I was pregnant and then I'd have a horrible period for almost 2 weeks. Crazy hormones! :)

I had similar issues with my period when I was nursing. I would first get a pregnancy test to rule that out. Every month I got annoying spotting the second half of my cycle and then get my period, and I was sure that it would never work itself out. I was bleeding 2-3 weeks a month to some degree and it was super annoying! I tried going on birth control and that made the problem worse! Even just nursing my daughter 1-2 feedings a day messed up my cycle. I am since 2 months out from no longer breastfeeding and things are finally starting to get better. Nursing can definitely do strange things to your cycle.

I would do the home pregnancy test and if it comes back not preg... well, get worked up a doctor. Anemia can cause you to lose your period and so can other things health wise.
