Once you stopped BF'ing how many cycles did it take you to become regular again (and not be on the pill)? I know this is going to vary, but just curious.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I guess I will wait and see how long it takes my cycle to get regular ~ like I have a choice : ) I will be going at the end of the month for bc pills. I had my cycle once 5 weeks after having my DD, then I had to stop BF'ing around 7 months. The first month it took about 4 weeks before a cycle and this time it was 36 days. We are currently not trying and are probably done, so we have been using alternative methods of bc as I have had to reschedule my appointment for my annual multiple times (emergency surgery, funeral for my aunt, etc ~ all good reasons). Thanks everyone for your answers. It still amazes me how different everyones bodies are. I can say how much I enjoyed no cycle for the length of my pregnancy and then the 7 months after (minus the one cycle).

Mine came back anywhere from 9mo-1yr after the birth, but I breastfed my children long into their 2nd and 3rd years. I got pregnant twice while still breastfeeding.

I had my period even while breastfeeding... with both my pregnancies.
By 6 months, my periods came back.
And it was very regular... like how it was, before I ever got pregnant.

With baby number one my period came back two months after I stopped breastfeeding--and it was regular. We will see what happens with baby number two.

I found I ovulated & got pregnant again several times, never having any periods in between. I bf through my pregnancies, tandem nursingm through 7 kids. By the time my last baby weaned, at 3 1/2 yo, I already had well established periods for about 2 1/2 yrs. I guess that's not the answer you were looking for, since my cycles came long before the weaning. But if it's variety you want, there it is!

I EBF for 5 months, started weaning around 5 mo 1 week (still hadn't had my 1st post baby period) and found out I was pregnant when my dd3 was 6 months old. I know this doesn't really answer your question, but just wanted to share.

I got my first period when my son was about 11 months old and I nursed him until he was about a year. My cycles were NEVER regular before becoming pregnant, but from that first cycle on they were like clock work every 36 days!

Even though I breastfed exclusively, I never stopped my cycles. After my first child was born, I got my period at 6 weeks postpartum, then my second period 5 weeks after, then regularly every 4 weeks (give or take a day) until I got pregnant again. With my second child, I got my period at 4 weeks after birth (although I did skip a cycle at 8 weeks postpartum, because I was pumping so much milk for a friend's adopted baby that I *finally* was able to experience lactation amenorrhea!)

But I've had friends in real life and on-line who didn't have a period until they started weaning their babies to table food; and others had to completely stop breastfeeding entirely before starting back. Some got pregnant the first time they ovulated (before menstruating the first time), so they didn't get their cycle back at all!

With my son, my period came back after 11 months, so 4 months before I stopped breastfeeding (but he was also on solid at the time)

With my daughter, about 2-3 months after I stopped BF (so 9 months after birth)

My period came back both times while I was BFing. Soooo not fair. You could be back in a regular cycle within 2-3 months.

I stopped breastfeeding last February, and my periods are still not regular. They had always been very regular before.

Yeah not fair, mine came back six months after bfing. It's not always consistent but comes. I guess i was only consistent when was on the pill which i haven't been on since a month before getting pregnant.

With my first 2 I got my period back around 6 months and they went pretty normal from there.I was nursing my first when I got pregnant with my second and nursed him through the pregnancy and for a couple months nursed both. I got pregnant with my thrid while nursing my second. He last nursed just before I found out I was pregnant. My third, I got no break at all. I started my periods immediately. As in before 6 weeks was even over I had a period and they kept at it ever since. They were a little erratic, mostly short, the first few months (the midwife said it looked like I wasn't ovulating but trying to build up lining that wouldn't hold). She's 18 months, nursing and my cycles are just the way they always were.
It all depends on the woman and even each pregnancy as you can see with me.

Once my period came back, it was regular - I was still breastfeeding.
1st it was 7 months (she was BFed for 12 months)
2nd it was 14 months (he was BFed for 16 months)

I think for me it was more closely related to when they slept through the night. 1st was around 3 months, second right around 14 months)

Like you said, it varies - I did not expect that it would vary that much for the same person!

Seven months, there abouts? Could have been six, or eight. My cycle was regular right away.
