My 17 y.o.'s license expired on her bday. The line for the DMV yesterday was around the building. Do I need to be with her up at the desk when she gets to the front of the line, in order for her license to be renewed? Or can I just drop her off? I have a dr's appt this afternoon so it's not possible for me to sit around for 2-3 hrs with her.

What can I do next?

Have you checked to see if it can be done online?

I would think she can do it herself but I do not know the rules.

The line is horrid... My daughter's DL expired on her bday 12/27 and due to her cheer competition training and school schedule, we were not able to even get to the DL office until competition was done in early February. Even then, the coach let her go early that day, 1:30, and we still waited until 5pm.

I was with her because I did not allow her to drive with no DL. She actually took care of the renewal herself and I was just in the background waiting. It is a LONG wait. I've heard the Richardson line is not so bad.. I have no idea as to the truth to that though.

Good luck.. The DMV is an awful place to spend the afternoon but sometimes we have to do it. You can't renew a 17 yr olds DL online.. :(

IN my memory... you do need to be their because she is a minor. Check the website for your state

I'm not following. Why would you need to be there?

Sounds like daughter poorly planned her renewal. No need for you to babysit.
