We just got invited to our friends' daughter's birthday. I have no idea what 13 year old girls are into. What's a good gift for around $25. I'm not opposed to a gift card, but where to? Thanks.

What can I do next?

If you go the gift card route, Target is always a safe bet.

My neice will be 13 next week. I am giving her Visa Gift card, just like I did her brother when he turned 13.. That was about 2 years ago. She made me promise to give her one when she turned 13.

Mom, Target is a great one if u have one near by. If she is a reader get Borders or Barnes and Noble. THis is what our daughter got at this age and she loved them. I-Tunes is always good too if she has MP3 player.

We just celebrated my son turning 13 and my daughter turning 11. They were most excited about the cash they received. It didnt matter if the card had only $5 or $50. They were excited to go and spend on what they really wanted. After a certain age(or between a certain age) gifts just dont really impress as much as they once did.

The problems with gift cards:
What happens when there is a dollar or 2 left over? Or the other end where they spend the whole amount but go over by a couple of buck? Who pays that? They may get a $25 one from one store and a $25 one from another store and so on...not fun for mom to bring her all over town trying to spend them and spend the day trying to find just the right thing for the exact amount as the gift card. I have several cards from several stores with a couple of bucks left on them and I feel so bad for the people who forked out the money for those cards which may never get fully used up.
Cash is so much better. My kids love, love, love cash and so do their friends. They can spend it on something they really want to buy, or they can do like my kids do and save it. My kids don't get an allowance, so sometimes they'll want something I won't buy them and they can spend their own money, or sometimes they want to have a couple of bucks in their pocket when they go somewhere with a friend so they don't have to be embarassed and ask the friend's mom to pay for everything. Just be sure it's CASH and not a check

One of my favorite gifts: a gift card to Blockbuster, nestled inside a tub of microwave popcorn with a few movie size boxes of candy, all wrapped up in cellophane with a big bow. Instant movie night! Always a big hit, no matter the age.

Justice is a great store for teens and pre-teens! We order a lot on line as our kids love college things (A&M, LSU, etc) and not all of that is carried in the store. I have an email with a 40% off coupon if you're interested in it. Email me and I'll send it over:

I have a 13 and 14 year old. I tunes is a hit. They also love aeropastle. If you know her shoe size, they love cute boots. Another idea is vera bradley. You can get a small purse for around 25.00. Movie theater gift certificates are another good one. Girls are so much fun to shop for :)

I think Target gift cards are a great idea for kids--the clothes seem to be "cool" enough for kids and there are a ton of other things they can buy there- cd's, videos, make up, etc! And target has some cute cards that say "happy birthday" or Happy B-day!
