of course, I know this one will be way off base.. but when my son turned seven (he's nine now) he happen to see a Lawrence Welk re-run on (PBS) and on it, saw not only Lawrence playing the accordion but Myron Floren as well.. Not only did my son insist he take accordion lessons but for an entire year thereafter, everything was Lawrence Welk.. even his bday party... :) was a LW theme... for which we had a life-like photo of LW put on a cake and I ordered mini chocolate accordions and the only gifts my son wanted was Lawrence Welk music.... We also visited the LW resort in Escondido.... and while my son is not into LW as much.. he still plays the accordion.. and to this day... can hear a big band song and name it..
Don't ask me where he gets his taste....he's always been a very unique kid... it's really rather sweet.. esp in an age where kids this age don't often care to listen to big band music.. let alone.. Lawrence Welk..

I had a birthday part at the firehouse. My daughter had one at the firehouse also. It was a huge hit as mine was. The firemen show the kids what they wear going to a fire. Then let the kids dress up in the boots, jackets, etc. Then tour the firehouse and climb on the trucks and hear the siren.

I had fun sleep over parties, skate parties, bowling parties, swimming and parties at the park.

for my daughter's first birthday we did a baby pooh theme. this year we were going to do a wiggles theme but coudln't afford the party this year because we moved. from my childhood i loved it when we'd get dairyqueen icecream cakes for my birthday since i had a summer birthday. i never had themes i'd just invite my whole class. the last real party i remember was second grade too. lol. i'm interested to read the other responses.

My oldest turned 6 this summer and asked for a Star Wars birthday.

I painted some pictures of R2D2 and Chewbacca. We played "pin the medal on the Wookie" and race to the droid. Our local DQ did a cake with a picture from Star Wars coloring book (DQ is a francise!:)

"Jedi Dave" (a competitive fencer we know) came over and taught the kids to use thier light sabers (cheap light-up swords from Rhode Island Novelty on-line) and then...Darth Vader (Daddy) showed up and all the little Padawan defeated him big time! : )

Man, it was fun...

My daughter's favorite b-day party was when she turned 12. She loved to watch Survivor so that was the theme she chose.

Bandanas were the buffs. We had a scavenger hunt, team challenges, gross food challenge and ended with tribal council (a hot dog roast).
